Actor Jason Schwartzman joins a star-studded list of celebrities appearing in season five of NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

The Huffington Post reports that Schwartzman will play a character named Dennis Lerpiss, the owner of Pawnee VideoDome. Schwartzman’s video store is the only indie flick rental joint in Pawnee, and it has fallen on hard times. A lover of community spirit and the oft-trampled underdog, Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope will intervene to get the store named as a historic landmark.

Parks and Recreation is currently on its mid-season break. The episode will air in 2013.

Rolling Stone reports that other big-name guest spots on Parks and Recreation this season have included Lucy Lawless, Megan Mullally, Christie Brinkley, Vice President Joe Biden and Senators John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe.

Newt Gingrich will also appear in an upcoming episode, but by happy accident. The former House speaker just happened to be in the same restaurant where Parks and Recreation was filming a scene.

Schwartzman’s TV credit include three seasons on HBO’s Bored to Death, Freaks & Geeks, Cracking Up, and Sesame Street. On the big screen, he is known for roles in I Heart Huckabees, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and frequent collaborations with writer and director Wes Anderson.

The most recent of these collaborations, Moonrise Kingdom, received near-universal acclaim. Schwartzman will next be seen in A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III alongside Parks and Recreation actress Aubrey Plaza.

Parks and Recreation will return on January 17, 2013 in a new time-slot at 8:30pm EST.
