Port Charlotte, FL – Authorities have arrested a drunk grandfather who attempted to bring a gun onto school property, according to MSN.

Worried that something might happen to his grandchildren in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Florida resident Stephen Craig Miller asked two different schools if he could bring a gun onto the premises as protection.

Police said the 61-year-old grandfather was intoxicated at the time the incidents allegedly took place. Worried that he may do harm to himself or others, officers placed Miller under arrest.

The Herald-Times reports Miller first paid a visit to Kingsway Elementary where he asked officials if he could bring a gun onto the property so he could protect his grandchildren. Staff placed a call to police soon after the incident took place.

The intoxicated grandfather then made his way to Port Charlotte Middle. Police said the man was observed staggering around the parking lot. Miller was asked to leave the premises after he inquired about the safety of his grandchildren.

According to an official news release from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Stephen Craig Miller was arrested by deputies for “disrupting and interfering with the educational processes and orderly conduct of a school campus due to his intoxicated state, and wanting to bring a firearm onto school property, causing school personnel to leave their normal duties to address the situation.”

This isn’t the only gun-related incident to occur at a school in the wake of the Newtown shooting. Earlier this week, an 11-year-old student at West Kearns Elementary brought a gun to school in order to protect himself from potential shooters.

According to the Daily Mail, the kid’s parents encouraged their son to bring a gun to school. He has since been suspended for his actions.
