New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz visited the home of Jack Pinto, one of the 6-year-old victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting,  in Newtown, Connecticut on Tuesday.

The Pinto family had some of the neighborhood children over to play football in their front yard. Several of the kids wore New York Giants jerseys while others wore the school colors of Newtown high school.

According to ESPN, Cruz visited with the family because Pinto was a big fan of the Giants’ receiver. Pinto, who was buried on Monday, was laid to rest wearing a Victor Cruz jersey.

Cruz wrote a special message for Pinto on his shoes during Sunday’s game and said that he would visit the family soon.

Cruz said:

“I don’t even know how to put it into words. There are no words that can describe the type of feeling that you get when a kid idolizes you so much that unfortunately they want to put him in the casket with your jersey on. I can’t even explain it … Sometime this week I definitely plan on going up there. Just visiting with the family for a little awhile and talking to them. Just spending some time, try to put a smile on their faces in a tough time.”

Cruz made good on his word on Tuesday. No pictures or video of the visit have been released, but Cruz did write a special message on his Twitter page.
