The latest issue of “transversal” magazine Candy features a cover that is bound to turn heads: transgender model Connie Fleming posing as First Lady Michelle Obama.

The mag’s eye-catching shoot was discussed by “one-man publishing team” Luis Venegas, who told Dazed Digital:

“[...] I especially love the cover story, which for the first time isn’t a super-popular star, but a fabulous, beautiful black transwoman channeling a politician who looks pretty much like Michelle Obama.”

Venegas said that the cover was inspired by the idea that the US may one day have a transgender president:

“I remember back in early 2007 when the Democratic Party’s nominees were narrowed down between two “controversial” stereotypes never before seen for presidency: a black man, Barack Obama; and a woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“At that time, I thought, ‘when will the time come when these archaic walls break down and the White House will be occupied by, for example, a black, transsexual woman?’ At that moment I decided someday I would toy with this idea on one of my covers of Candy.”

There’s no news on what Michelle Obama thinks of the Candy cover, though they certainly got the first lady’s famously toned arms (as seen below) right, and it beats the tasteless Spanish magazine cover from earlier this year that featured Obama as a slave.

Previous Candy magazine cover stars include James Franco, who appeared in drag for the second issue of the magazine.
