According to Kotaku, a group of thieves have stolen a staggering 7,000 units of the new console from a warehouse near Seattle’s SeaTac airport. The whole thing apparently went down without airport staff being any the wiser.

Instead of embarking on a heist worthy of big-budget Hollywood adaptation, the bandits simply rolled into the Air Cargo area of the airport with a pair of semi trucks and forklifts. According to ABC News, the thieves used the cover of a recent storm to hide their nefarious deeds.

When everything was said and done, the Wii U bandits made off with over 7,000 units of the popular console. This heist has the potential to make a lot of gamers incredibly sad this holiday season.

“I’ve been a cop for 28 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this … this has come straight out of the movies,” Sergeant Cindy West explained.

She added, “If we don’t get any tips ahead of time, it will be the selling of these consoles that will lead to their capture. It’s gonna be pretty hard to hide 7,000 Wii game consoles.”

Wii U Daily reports the crime will likely cost the folks at Nintendo of America at least $2 million in lost sales.

However, the story does have a bit of a silver lining for the company. The aforementioned website reports that every single Wii U console is traceable. Should someone buy one of the stolen consoles off the back of a truck in a dimly lit parking lot, the company might be able to trace the unit once it has been connected to the internet.

As of this writing, Seattle police have no idea who made off with over 7,000 Wii U consoles during the daring heist at SeaTac airport.
