Miami County, Troy, OH – An adoptive father has been sentenced to 60 years to life in prison. For the time being, he’s not being named, in order to protect the juveniles involved. The unidentified 40-year-old man, plead guilty to six counts of felony rape. He’s agreed to cooperate with authorities in order to acquire a plea deal; a reduced sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to all charges. Earlier in the year he, and his accomplice 31-year-old Patrick Rieder, were indicted on charges of multiple counts of rape, which were inflicted upon the children under the adoptive father’s care. The men originally met online in a chat room, and began coordinating meetings, where the adoptive father would bring one of his boys to Rieder’s home, in order to engage in sexual acts. A third pederast, 30-year-old Jason Zwick, was also charged with similar counts of rape.

According to the Associated Press:

“State records show he had been caring for three boys and a girl in his home. The children were from Texas and were placed with him by a private Ohio adoption agency, that is part of an interstate compact to help match children with adoptive parents.”

As reported by the Huffington Post, Miami County Judge Robert Lindeman was quoted in response to the plea deal:

“Weighing the recidivism and seriousness factors, the court would agree with the recommended sentence and order those sentences to run consecutively.” Consecutive sentencing means that when a criminal defendant is convicted on multiple counts, the sentences for each must be served on after the other.

As part of the plea deal, county prosecutors expunged 25 additional charges in lieu a recommended sentence of 60 years to life in prison, with the possibility of parole. If he is ever released he will have to register as a sex offender and keep law enforcement up to date on his work and residence. But he faces additional related charges in another county, which include rape of a child under 13 and complicity to rape.

Rieder and Zwick are still awaiting trial.
