Easy Bake Ovens for boys will be available on store shelves in 2013. The classic and still highly-popular baking toy will not just come in girly colors anymore. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, a 13-year-old girl stated a petition to push Hasbro to manufacture the Easy Bake Oven in a unisex style that would appeal to both sexes.
The petition for boy-friendly colors garnered more than 40,000 signatures, according to KVUE. The new black and silver Easy Bake Oven is slated to hit toy store shelves in the fall of 2013, just in time to the Christmas shopping season next year.
McKenna Pope decided to start the petition after shopping for a Christmas present for her little brother Gavyn and was disappointed to find the ovens in styles she felt were designed solely for girls, according to the Huffington Post. Pope had this to say about her response from Hasbro:
“I think that they really met most or even all of what I wanted them to do, and they really amazed me.”
There is no word yet if the Easy Bake Oven mix packs will now also feature a more gender neural style. The packets typically come in pastel packaging and sometimes show photos of smiling girls on the front.
The Easy Bake Oven boasts a fairly unisex purple color but also has pink and light blue flowery swooshes on the façade. Grandparents searching for the Easy Bake Ultimate Over might have difficulty finding one and not just because they are sold out in many stores. The existing oven style will still be available after the new black and gold style comes out next year.
The oven has changed styles multiple times since it was first introduced in 1963. The popular toy for budding pastry chefs does not look anything like the one grandparents once placed under the Christmas tree for their own daughters. The modern version of the Easy Bake Oven resembles a microwave far more than it does a traditional style stove. The little slot to slide the mixture into for baking still provides the same sweet goodness when the time goes off, regardless of color and style changes.
