Awards Watch: ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Cleans Up At Satellite Awards

Following its snub from the Golden Globes, David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook cleaned up big time at the Satellite awards, which were held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The awards were presented by the International Press Academy, with Playbook taking home five awards, including best motion picture, best director, and the film’s leads Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence were celebrated as best actor and actress. In addition, Silver Linings Playbook took home an editing award by Jay Cassidy and Crispin Struthers.

Other accolades of the night went to Anne Hathaway in the best supporting actress category for Les Miserables, which also took home an award for best song, “Suddenly.” For best original screenplay, Zero Dark Thirty took home that honor, and David Magee received an award for best adapted screenplay for Life of Pi.

In addition to the big awards that were given, Alexandre Desplat took home an award for Argo’s score, Claudio Miranda took home an award for cinematography for Life of Pi, and the visual effects team for Flight took home their top honor.

What’s interesting about the winners, is the unique position it now presents to Silver Linings Playbook. The David O. Russell film is in a kismet spot given their big night at the Satellite awards. The film has been widely received by critics, and cleaned up for nominations at the SAGS, but when the Globes were announced and Robert DeNiro and David O. Russell were missing from the list, it was a shocker and a possible game change. Right now it looks like nominations from the Foreign Press can go either way for this film.

If anything’s certain, it’s that Jennifer Lawrence will be nominated either way, as she’s the only player from the film to have received nominations across the board.
