Matt Rhule To Temple? New York Giants Assistant Coach Close To Signing Deal

Matt Rhule could soon be heading to Temple.

Several sources have reported that the New York Giants assistant offensive line coach has been offered a job to replace Steve Addazio at Temple University. According to the Owls Scoop, Temple has offered Rhule the job and he is expected to sign a contract this weekend. Temple will then hold a press conference on Monday to announce their new head coach.

If Rhule accepts the job he will be Temple’s third head coach in just four years.

The NY Daily News reports that Rhule met with incoming University President Neal D. Theobald on Thursday night to talk about the head coaching position. University of Miami defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio was also in the running for the job but the Associated Press reports that D’Onofrio has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Rhule was the assistant coach at Temple for six seasons. He left the team in 2011 to join the New York Giants. Now that Addazio has vacated the head coaching position it looks like Rhule could make a return to Temple.

Temple made its return to the Big East last season but the team only managed a 4-7 record.
