Marilyn Manson has apparently been stitched back together after nearly losing his ear this week.
TMZ reported today that the 43-year-old singer took to his Twitter account on December 11 with this:
“I was hit by a glass table in a dangerous fight. I was however, the victor but had to have 24 stitches to keep my ear from becoming Van Goth.”
“Van Goth” is most likely a reference to the historic artist Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch post-Impressionist painter. Van Gogh was widely purported to have cut off his own ear and handed it to a passing prostitute.
Marilyn Manson, born Brian Hugh Warner, didn’t have much else to say about the incident but did share a picture with his Twitter fans, which number over 300,000. The photo features an extreme close-up of the rocker’s ear with several small surgical bandages covering the stitches.
The caption reads simply, “My ear.”
According to The Daily Mail, the often controversial singer was in Switzerland at the time of the injury. Manson is currently on tour with fellow musician Rob Zombie for their “Twins of Evil” collaboration. He will then be performing shows in Russia and Belarus with a Stateside and Canadian tour scheduled to follow soon after.
The band’s official website lists a January 18 show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the first date of the North American tour.
