NBA-Refs Finalize New Deal

New York, NY (AHN) – The NBA and its referees struck an accord on a two-year pact that will insure the referees are back on the court in time for the tip-off to the season next week.

The referees union is expected to finalize the contract Friday, where it is expected to be ratified by all 57 members of the union and voted upon.

The breakthrough follows NBA Commissioner David Stern meeting with the referees union negotiator Larnell McMorris, both of whom had left the table at various points before.

The previous contract expired Sept 1, and they were in need of finalizing a new pact.

This process has taken an unexpectedly long amount of time, and each side has various concerns they wished addressed in the new contract that weren’t discussed before.

While specifics of the new ‘contract-in-progress’ have not yet been released, this contract is said to address the remaining concerns of veteran referees.
