‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Canceled? Fake Twitter Trend Sparks Panic

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy were left in a panic late on Sunday night. Suddenly, Twitter saw #GreysAnatomyCanceled start trending, leaving many worrying that their favorite show was coming to an end.

This is a case of don’t believe everything to see online. Despite the trend, CarterMatt reports that the medical drama is definitely not canceled. This is one of ABC’s highest-rated shows. The network would be ridiculous to cancel it, especially after already confirming that Grey’s Anatomy Season 14 is happening and will air on Thursdays later this year.

Think of the Twitter trend as a celebrity death hoax. Rather than just joining in with it, it’s worth doing some checking online first. If there isn’t a report from ABC about the end of the show or an official tweet from the show, there are high chances that a hashtag trend isn’t real.

The problem with the Twitter hashtags is that people will use them to get their questions and messages out. This alerts Twitter of a trend, and the most popular hashtags or discussed topics appear on the side bar. The social network has no way of determining whether the topic is fake news, misled rumors, or the real deal.

There is very little that fans know about Grey’s Anatomy Season 14, except that it is definitely returning. The season will see Kim Raver return in the role of Dr. Teddy Altman. This return isn’t that surprising. Owen Hunt’s sister Megan was found alive and returned to Seattle. Altman is the head of MEDCOM, the top U.S. military medical command center. She had already seen Megan and confirmed that this was definitely Owen’s sister and will want to be there to help the siblings in their time of need.

Teddy may even help Owen and Amelia patch up their relationship. She will see things that they can’t and be able to offer a few words of advice. Amelia certainly stepped up when it came to Owen needing her, suggesting that there is hope for the struggling married couple.

ABC hasn’t confirmed the exact date that the medical drama will return. Just don’t believe the Twitter trend rumors right now. Grey’s Anatomy has not been canceled!
