Pepsi-Chicken Chips Released By Lay’s In China

Like Pepsi? Like Chicken? You’ll probably love the new Pepsi-Chicken chips released by Lay’s in China.

According to Oddity Central, Lay’s releases a new flavor of potato chip every year in China. This year, the company has developed the Pepsi-Chicken chip.

It may sound like a strange combination but apparently the flavor is rather common in China. Richard Lee, PepsiCo’s chief marketing officer in China, told Adage that chicken wings cooked in Pepsi is a very popular dish in China.

Lee said:

“We thought it would be really cool to have a cola combined with chicken. … It’s a very popular dish in China … Also it would be very cool to involve one of our most-iconic soft drinks.”

Pepsi was happy to work with Lay’s on the new chip. The company has been working to expand its brand presence in China and what better way to do that than with a bag of potato chips.

Ben Cavender, associate principal at the China Market Research Group, said:

“Coke and Pepsi have both stalled out in terms of growth potential in China. It’s important for them to be developing new products and driving into these growth categories. I think Pepsi is probably better-positioned with the packaged food that it has to really make some gains there.”

Here’s the new advertisement for Pepsi-Chicken chips?

This, of course, isn’t Lay’s first interesting potato chip flavor. The company has also released lemon tea, cucumber and hot-and-sour fish soup chips. Do you want to try Lay’s Pepsi-Chicken chips?
