Tarek El Moussa Explains The Real Reason He And Flip Or Flop Star Christina Got Divorced
Tarek El Moussa has revealed the real reason he and Flip Or Flop costar Christina got divorced, In Touch Weekly is reporting.
Tarek, 35, recently appeared on syndicated talk show The Doctors, and, of course, the topic of his divorce from Christina came up. As you probably suspect, it wasn’t any one thing that caused his divorce, which is a truism that probably applies to 90 percent of divorces in America. Rather, it was a series of things happening in rapid succession that tore apart the marriage.
“It was like overnight: businesses, TV, all these things happened overnight, then the cancer and the back surgery. It just kind of started pushing us apart from each other.”
Before Flip Or Flop, Tarek and Christina were the darlings of the Southern California real estate market, making money hand over fist selling property. That all changed when the market crashed in the mid-2000’s. However, the couple picked up the pieces from their failed business and started “flipping” houses by purchasing distressed properties on the cheap and then fixing them up and selling them for profit. Christina would do the design, and Tarek would do the labor (or more specifically, contract it out).
Eventually, the couple got into contact with HGTV, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Even as their show was growing to become one of the most popular home-renovation shows on TV, behind the scenes things were getting ugly in Tarek and Christina’s family. In addition to all of the things going on with Tarek – his health issues in particular – there were rumors that Christina was cheating on her husband with a family friend; pool contractor Gary Anderson.
Then, one night in May 2016, police turned up at the family home after reports that a “suicidal” Tarek had grabbed a gun and walked outside. Tarek would later say that he was simply going hiking and brought along the gun for protection against wild animals.
Now, eight months after they’ve filed for divorce, Tarek and Christina still have their personal issues. Rumors have swirled that he’s been verbally abusive on-set and that he had a drinking problem. Tarek is evasive when asked about it.
“I would be lying if I said it was easy. But like anything, there’s ups and downs and you have challenges.”
These days, the two are trying their best to put their differences aside and soldier on as a couple that’s not a couple. They’re still working at Flip Or Flop, just as co-hosts and not a married couple. They’re also co-parenting their children, Taylor and Brayden (Tay & Bray).
Meanwhile, after a series of failed relationships, Tarek is living the bachelor life, saying he’s “taking a break from blondes.”
