Derek Hough Gets Emotional About Julianne’s Magical Wedding To Brooks Laich At Their Childhood Vacation Site

Derek Hough is giving his sister’s wedding a perfect score. A few days after his sister, Julianne Hough, married NFL player Brooks Laich, Derek told People magazine the Dancing With the Stars judge’s special day exceeded his expectations and was “beyond anything” he could have imagined. Derek went on to say his sister’s wedding was so unique that he could “write a novel” about how amazing it was.

Julianne Hough married Brooks Laich on July 8 on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the site of the Hough siblings’ summer vacations when they were growing up. Derek said there was “so much sentimental history on that lake” as his sister and her longtime love exchanged vows in front of 200 friends and family members at the special locale near the family’s lake house.

“Everything from the hot beautiful weather during the fun lake activities to the welcome and rehearsal dinners where we danced with friends and family all night long, to the most perfect ceremony I have ever seen where I witnessed my baby sister marry the man of her dreams,” Derek told People.

Derek revealed that one of his favorite parts of the rustic, outdoor ceremony was when Julianne and Brooks journeyed by boat to their reception.

“Seeing my sister ride in on this ridiculous two-seater James Bond looking StanCraft boat while her veil blew in the wind was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen,” Derek said.

Hough said the entire crowd cheered as Julianne and Brooks rolled up to the dock in the tricked-out boat. Later, the guests danced under the stars and were treated to a massive fireworks display over the lake. One of the most sentimental moments of the day came when Julianne danced with her father, Bruce Hough, to the song “Daddy’s Little Girl,” which she co-wrote with her older sister more than a decade ago.

According to People, the newlyweds said it was “very important” for them to be married outdoors, and the lake turned out to be the perfect spot for many reasons.

“When I introduced Brooks to the lake, he fell in love with this special spot, and we knew this was where we wanted to raise our family and grow old together,” Julianne Hough revealed to People.

While Julianne’s wedding sounds Pinterest perfect, it didn’t go completely without any mishaps. TMZ revealed that it was a rough ride for some invitees to get to the magical locale when one of the coaches transporting the couple’s guests to the outdoor affair ended up in a ditch en route to the ceremony. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the bride and groom made it to the altar without a hitch.
