WWE Rumors: Brock Lesnar ‘SummerSlam’ Opponent Revealed — And It’s Not What Was Expected

The original WWE rumors for SummerSlam involved Brock Lesnar defending the Universal Championship against Braun Strowman. However, an injury to Strowman put off that match and now it looks like the WWE is completely changing course. According to Sportskeeda, the new main event will be a four-way match with Brock Lesnar defending his title at SummerSlam against Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe.

The path to this huge match started this week on Monday Night Raw. Taking fans back to Monday night, Kurt Angle came to the ring and called out Brock Lesnar to congratulate him on beating Samoa Joe at Great Balls of Fire.

After that, Angle said that he wanted to figure out who Brock Lesnar would defend his title against at SummerSlam. Paul Heyman tried to shrug him off but Roman Reigns came out to the ring. He demanded the match and said that he did what he had to do to get rid of Braun Strowman, calling back to memory the Attitude Era.

Brock Lesnar actually spoke after this and told Roman Reigns that he didn’t deserve anything. That brought out Samoa Joe. When he got to the ring, he told Brock Lesnar that he didn’t beat Joe the night before but only survived him. He then told Roman Reigns that he’s never beaten Samoa Joe.

Kurt Angle made a huge decision. He said that next week on Monday Night Raw, Samoa Joe will fight Roman Reigns for the No. 1 contender’s spot to Brock Lesnar and the WWE Universal Championship.

Therein lies the problem. While Samoa Joe did give Brock Lesnar his toughest match in a long time, he still lost at Great Balls of Fire. While Roman Reigns did hurt Braun Strowman, he also lost to Strowman in their match. That means that two men who lost at the last Monday Night Raw pay-per-view are getting a chance to fight for the top title at SummerSlam.

According to Sportskeeda, the match at SummerSlam is booked as a four-way between all four men and it is likely that the match will be made after next week’s Monday Night Raw match. Braun Strowman is likely to get involved in causing a no-decision.

This is interesting because original WWE rumors had Brock Lesnar fighting Braun Strowman at SummerSlam and then defending this title against Seth Rollins and Finn Balor before fighting Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34. However, Brock Lesnar is said to want to continue working with Samoa Joe and that is probably why he is remaining in the title picture.
