Hillary Clinton Promoting ‘Nasty Woman’ T-Shirt Receives Negative Reaction From Twitter

Hillary Clinton is just fine with being the “Nasty Woman” while she promotes her “infamous nickname” now plastered across T-shirts for a fundraising campaign to benefit Planned Parenthood. Hillary is giving the campaign a boost for Samantha Bee, who used the “Nasty Woman” motto on the shirts that are selling for $25 a pop.

The picture of Hillary holding the T-shirt and sporting a smile has gone over like a lead balloon in some circles, according to the comments surrounding her new venture. “From almost the President to selling trendy liberal t-shirts. Sad!” This is just one comment from a Twitter user, Mark Dice, who appears to offer up sympathy for the woman who hoped she was strong enough to break that glass ceiling.

Others were disappointed in Hillary for not only condoning the sale of the shirt but for becoming the face of this sales campaign. “I could never image handing my little girl this shirt… it’s degrading, sad and reinforces a negative image on young women,” said another Twitter user, Nik Lentz.

This photo promotion, which Hillary herself tweeted out to the masses, does not mean that Hillary thinks of herself as “nasty” in the sense that social media users are taking it today. Many on social media think this has backfired because it is a great self-description offered up by the former secretary of state. Hillary and Samantha Bee have attached a different connotation to the term, which is seen in the description of the shirt. Hillary equates this with “smart” and “fearless” women and women who are willing to fight for what they believe in. This is the polar opposite of how some see it today.

Samantha Bee tweeted out a thank you to Hillary saying she will always be the “original Nasty Woman.” This T-shirt was supposed to be a compliment to Hillary, but some people are not taking this as a compliment. Bee’s tweet is seen below.

According to the Huffington Post, the T-shirt is available for sale at the TBS shop and they state that “ Sales from the $25 tee will go to benefit the nonprofit group” Planned Parenthood. Clinton’s tee campaign offers up the description:

“By getting this “exclusive Nasty Woman shirt, you’re joining Samantha Bee and countless other smart, fearless women and men in supporting Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County, standing up for women’s (aka, human) rights and helping to pave the way for a brighter future.”

There wasn’t a shortage of people asking about Hillary getting a commission on the sales of the tee. The Daily Mail calls Samantha Bee an “outspoken TV host” and they report that Hillary is urging people to buy these T-shirts for their goal of raising $1 million for Planned Parenthood.

It was really Donald Trump who inspired the name “Nasty Woman,” as “the name is a reference to the jibe President Trump made at Clinton during a 2016 presidential debate,” writes the Daily Mail.

The page selling the product is on the TBS shop online. It states that “every $25 shirt sold benefits the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project for Los Angeles County.” But it doesn’t say how much of the sales percentage will benefit the project, suggests MRC TV News.

MRC TV News also conveys that Hillary Clinton, who was once favored to win the presidential race, is now “reduced to promoting T-shirts.” While some have poked fun at the former secretary of state for her new gig in Nasty Woman tee sales, others across the social media sites see it as just one more step down from her once high aspirations in politics.
