Joy-Anna Duggar & Austin Forsyth Get Engaged On ‘Counting On’: How Snot Played A Role In The Big Moment

Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth got engaged on last night’s episode Counting On, and their engagement day got off to a snotty start.

As the Hollywood Gossip reports, Counting On viewers got an inside look at how much hard work Austin Forsyth put into his elaborate proposal. The 23-year-old house-flipper enlisted the help of friends and family members to pull it off, and a few of 19-year-old Joy-Anna Duggar’s siblings played an important role in his plan to surprise her with a ring.

Before Austin Forsyth popped the question, his girlfriend revealed that she expected to be engaged “within the next few months.” Little did she know that her beau would be getting down on one knee in just two weeks. Part of the Counting On episode, “Joy Gets Engaged,” was filmed on the day that Jill Duggar and her husband, Derick Dillard, were getting ready to depart for Central America. According to People, they returned to the mission field on February 16, and Us Weekly reports that Joy-Anna Duggar got engaged to Austin Forsyth on March 2. Joy-Anna told the Counting On cameras that it was “hard” knowing that Jill Duggar likely wouldn’t be home to celebrate her younger sister’s engagement with her.

The day of the proposal, Jessa Duggar kept Joy-Anna distracted by asking her to come over and help her do a little housework. Joy-Anna spent the morning of her engagement scrubbing snot marks and spit-up off of Jessa’s couch and making her bed for her.

“Ben’s always really conscious of that,” Jessa told her younger sister of the snot stains.

“He’s like, ‘Babe, we need to wipe off the snot before we have any guests over.”

While his future wife was dealing with a snotty mess, Austin was busy setting up everything for the proposal. He decided to pop the question at a hiking spot that he loves to visit, and he asked his dad, Terry Forsyth, and a friend from church to make the atmosphere more romantic by stringing up some lights. They also set up a table and chairs, as well a grill. The grill was used to cook up a deer that Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth had “harvested” during a hunting trip.

Austin got Joy-Anna to the proposal spot under the pretense that he was taking two of her younger sisters, Johannah and Jennifer Duggar, horseback riding. Joy-Anna pulled up to the location where she was told to meet Austin Forsyth in a Mercedes, and he made a quip about the expensive automobile.

“You must be the only girl who drives that kind of car out in the woods,” he said.

Jennifer rode with Austin Forsyth on his horse, and everyone dismounted at a certain point on the trail. Austin then asked Jennifer and Johannah to “run a little ways” up ahead so that he and Joy-Anna Duggar could talk.

“Do you trust me?” Austin asked Joy-Anna before pulling out a bandanna and blindfolding her.

Austin then proceeded to lead her to the spot where he planned on popping the question. When he told her to take her blindfold off, Joy-Anna Duggar’s first thought was how her hair looked.

“Is my hair all messed up?” she asked right before it sank in that Austin was down on knee with a ring in his hand.

She obviously said yes, and she and Austin shared a long side-hug.

“Thank you for saying yes. It means the world to me,” Austin said as his father wiped away tears. Terry Forsyth got to witness the big moment, as did Jennifer, Johannah, and Jason Duggar. The group left after Austin proposed so that the lovebirds could enjoy their deer steak dinner mostly alone (the Counting On camera crew obviously remained behind).

So what’s next for Austin Forsyth and his wife? According to Joy-Anna Duggar, she and Austin plan on having as many kids “as God wants us to have.”
