‘American Horror Story’ Season 7: Twisty The Clown To Return—But There’s A Twist

Twisty the Clown, one of the most terrifying American Horror Story characters of all time, is making a comeback. The murderous clown, who made his debut during AHS: Freak Show back in 2014, will be revived for the upcoming seventh season of Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology series. But don’t worry clown haters. Twisty probably won’t be going on another serial murder spree or kidnapping small children and trapping them in a bus. According to a post on Murphy’s Instagram account, Twisty will make his comeback in comic book form.

Murphy took to his spoiler-filled Instagram page to post a photo of a comic book that features Freak Show’s freakiest freak. The horror comic is titled “Twisty The Clown Chronicles” and it features an animated version of the bloody clown on the cover. Murphy captioned the teaser photo with: “He’s baaaaaack.”

John Carroll Lynch originally portrayed the deformed Twisty the Clown in AHS: Freak Show. The half-masked antagonist’s horrors became the twisted inspiration for Dandy’s (Finn Wittrock) killings in the creepy carnival-themed season. Now it looks like Twisty’s killings were notorious enough to inspire a comic book named after him. Clown-phobic fans can only hope the silent character stays between the pages of the horror comic this time around.

According to Lynch, the original incarnation of Twisty was so scary that even American Horror Story crew members were terrified of the character.

“I heard from Ryan that there are some people on the crew who are like, ‘I don’t want to be near that,'” the actor told Collider. “I’m glad people are afraid, and I hope that I’m contributing to their fear.”

While so far Twisty only seems to be returning to the show in comic book—Freak Show was set in the 1950s, while American Horror Story: Election will somehow be tied into the 2016 election—John Carroll Lynch has not ruled out a real return to the show.

“I had a wonderful time,” Carroll said of his time as Twisty.

“I would love to have another opportunity to work with these actors. We’ll see what Ryan and the people at FX say.”

There is very little known about American Horror Story Season 7 except that the upcoming installment of the series will revolve around the aftermath of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. According to TV Line, several big names have signed on to the series, including franchise favorites Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. Newbies to the AHS franchise include Billy Eichner (Difficult People), Billie Lourd (Scream Queens), Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf) and Leslie Grossman (What I Like About You).
