‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ – Alan Cumming To Return As Nightcrawler?

Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler

Could Nightcrawler return to the X-Men in Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past? Actor Alan Cumming said that while he doubts he would be asked, he’d be open to playing the role again.

Cumming played Nightcrawler in X2: X-Men United, but reportedly didn’t return for X-Men: The Last Stand because covering oneself in blue paint head-to-toe tends to be a long and arduous process that the Tony Award-winning actor didn’t want to go through again. As production on X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to both X-Men: First Class and The Last Stand, quickly gets underway, casting directors are looking to bring back many of the franchise’s familiar faces, and Cumming recently said that he’s willing to be one of them, reports Cinemablend.

Cumming told ComingSoon that while he hasn’t yet received a call for Days of Future Past, he’d be more than willing to reprise his role as Nightcrawler if Singer asked.

“I haven’t gotten the call. Someone told me that Nightcrawler doesn’t appear in the story but I don’t know, I think they would have called by now,” he said, continuing, “It was funny that film because I really like it and everyone really responded to Nightcrawler and enough time has elapsed that I would like to go back to it. Although then when I did that film it was sort of the start of this spate of superhero and comic books made into films so it felt a little more special then it does now. X2 was a really great film, not just as a comic book film. I think it’s one of the films I’d been in that I think of as really good.”

It’s worth noting that Nightcrawler’s comic book parents, Mystique and Azazel, both appeared in First Class and even wound up on the same team at the end of that film. How they’d work Nightcrawler’s parentage into Days of Future Past, we don’t know, but it’d be nice to see Nightcrawler back in the franchise.
