WWE Rumors: Do Roman Reigns And John Cena Have A Date At The Summer’s Biggest Event?

For a little while, it looked like the WWE was planning on rushing straight to the Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match that was planned for WrestleMania 34 to battle low ratings. However, the new Great Balls of Fire betting odds have Braun Strowman as a huge favorite to beat Roman Reigns tonight and win the SummerSlam match against Lesnar.

Not only is Braun Strowman favored to beat Roman Reigns in the Ambulance Match at Great Balls of Fire, and earn the WWE Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar, but it is almost overwhelming odds. Strowman sits at (-1350) and Roman Reigns is a major underdog at (+650).

Roman Reigns Possible SummerSlam Plans

So, if Braun Strowman is going to fight Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, the second biggest WWE pay-per-view of the year, what will Roman Reigns do? While Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter speculated three weeks ago that it might not happen, a lot has changed that indicates that John Cena vs. Roman Reigns could be the biggest match at SummerSlam this year.

There have been a number of things that could lead to John Cena vs. Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. The first thing is that the WWE might feel they need something huge to lure fans back to the product after ratings reached lows that the WWE has not seen in years.

Despite his polarizing reaction – or possibly because of it – Roman Reigns remains one of the biggest stars in the WWE. His videos still get more YouTube downloads than any other WWE superstar and he gets a monster reaction, whether it is boos or cheers. That means that a huge feud heading into SummerSlam could bring in a big audience for Monday Night Raw as the August pay-per-view gets closer.

John Cena’s comments

There isn’t a bigger name that Roman Reigns could battle at SummerSlam than John Cena. The big thing is that Cena has already hinted at this. After Roman Reigns said that beating The Undertaker made the WWE ring “my yard,” John Cena took to Twitter to comment, “I’d like to prove that wrong.”

That was the first part of the John Cena reaction to Roman Reigns and the second one came when Cena made his return to SmackDown Live on the Fourth of July. During his return promo, John said that he was back and would appear on both SmackDown Live and Monday Night Raw, an obvious way to try to build the ratings back up on both shows.

Also, in the promo embedded below, John Cena also said that he is back to challenge anyone and namedropped everyone from AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Brock Lesnar and then finished with the name Roman Reigns. John Cena said that if the WWE lines them up, he will knock them down.

A Roman Reigns vs. John Cena match could be the main event for WrestleMania. However, Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar is what will likely happen at WrestleMania 34 and the WWE could use something this summer at SummerSlam to revive their sagging ratings.

The WWE even had a recent article that mentioned six men that John Cena had never faced in singles action before. The person in the main photo of the article was Roman Reigns.

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns could easily be the biggest match of the summer. The question is whether the WWE will finally pull the trigger on this once-in-a-lifetime match.
