Song Joong Ki Offered A Role In New Netflix Zombie Drama, Will He Accept Project Amid Wedding Preparations?

Looks like Song Joong Ki is going to have his hands full for the rest of the year with his upcoming wedding and a possible role in a new zombie drama.

South Korean heartthrob Song Joong Ki will most likely have a busy schedule in the next months to come, it has been alleged. Aside from his highly-anticipated wedding with Descendants of the Sun co-star Song Hye Kyo, the 31-year-old actor might also land a major role in Netflix’s upcoming zombie drama, Kingdom.

In a recent report by Korea Herald, it has been revealed that Song Joong Ki has been tapped for a role in Netflix’s thriller series penned by writer Kim Eun-hee. However, the Hallyu star has yet to make a final decision about the offer.

A representative of the show’s production firm, A Story, confirmed that they have made an offer to the Descendants of the Sun star, adding that nothing has been finalized yet.

According to reports, the production company is keen on getting the actor in the show and is currently under negotiation with Song Joong Ki’s agency, Blossom Entertainment.

Meanwhile, Blossom Entertainment also confirmed the offer and pointed out that Song Joong Ki has not made his decision regarding his appearance in Kingdom. It remains unclear if the actor is interested in the role but the agency clarified that he is considering the offer carefully.

“Song Joong Ki has been offered a role in Kingdom but he has not made a decision to appear. It is simply one of many pieces that have been offered, he is looking over it but he is not ready to make a decision yet.”

Kingdom, which was announced earlier this year, is an eight-episode historical zombie thriller set in Korea’s Joseon era. The story will focus on the Prince of Joseon dynasty (1392-1897) tasked with protecting the kingdom from terrifying zombies.

The series marks the second original Korean drama to be streamed on Netflix.

With Song Joong Ki’s upcoming nuptials later this year, fans are wondering whether he will accept the offer or not. There were claims that the actor might turn down the role as he is sure to be busy preparing for the most special day in his life — his wedding with Song Hye Kyo.

The engaged couple created headlines earlier this week when their agencies released a joint statement about their October wedding. Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo also penned their respective personal messages to their fans, apologizing for the shocking news and sharing their deep affection for each other.

As of this writing, Song Joong Ki has yet to confirm his decision about the offer to star in Netflix’s Kingdom. Fans of the Song-Song couple are hopeful that he will consider taking the role and expect it to be another major hit.

Kingdom is slated for a 2018 release. The new zombie series will be directed by Kim Sung Hoon (The Tunnel) and written by Kim Eun Hee (Signal).
