‘Vikings’ Season 5 Air Date To Be Announced At SDCC? Ragnar Lothbrok Honored In Traditional Funeral

The History Channel series Vikings has big things in store for fans at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con. There are speculations that the Vikings Season 5 air date will finally be announced at the highly-anticipated event.

Fans can also look forward to seeing a new trailer for Vikings Season 5, which is expected to premiere this fall. In addition to that, Ragnar Lothbrok and other recently departed characters will be honored in a traditional Viking funeral that includes a long-ship replica.

People have been waiting for updates on the Vikings Season 5 air date since the previous season concluded earlier this year. Some believe that Katheryn Winnick may have hinted on a possible announcement in a recent post on Instagram when the actress teased “big news soon.” There is a possibility that the woman who plays Lagertha may have been referring to the awesome surprises that the History Channel series will unveil at SDCC 2017.

New details about the Vikings Season 5 panel at SDCC have been released, stating that the panel will take place on Friday, July 21, in Room 6BCF between 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Unfortunately, it also confirms that Travis Fimmel and Clive Standen will not be in attendance alongside Winnick, Alexander Ludwig, Gustaf Skarsgard, and creator Michael Hirst. However, Alex Høgh Andersen will join the original cast members for the first time since he was cast as Ragnar’s son, Ivar the Boneless.

Travis Fimmel might not be joining the panel, but that doesn’t mean that History Channel has forgotten all about Ragnar Lothbrok. The network will be hosting a Viking funeral featuring a 45-foot long boat replica that will be set on fire at Embarcadero Marina Park South (200 Marina Park Way) after the panel starting 7 p.m.

The one-day event will be in tribute to Ragnar and his fellow Northmen who have made it to Valhalla. Since no Viking funeral is complete without wine, special drinking horns will be given out to attendees.

History Channel is certainly pulling out all the stops to make sure the Vikings presence is felt at SDCC. The panel is also set to introduce an exclusive comic book. Fans can also drop by booth 4215, where they can try on Viking gear and show off their sword fighting skills. The “Warriors Allegiance” booth will be open July 19-23.
