WWE Rumors: ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy Not Coming Soon After All? Hardys Reportedly Far From Deal With Anthem
Fans who may have been hoping for the “Broken” Matt Hardy to finally arrive in earnest in the WWE may have gotten their hopes too high if new reports are to be believed. While earlier reports suggested that Hardy appeared to be close to coming to terms with Impact Wrestling parent, Anthem Sports & Entertainment, in the drawn-out battle over his preferred gimmick, newer whispers from behind the scenes hint that both sides aren’t close to a deal after all.
According to a new report from PWInsider (via Cageside Seats), reports suggesting that “Broken” Matt Hardy would soon be unleashed on the WWE Universe may have been a bit too optimistic, as the Hardys — Matt, brother Jeff, and wife Reby — are still “nowhere close” to reaching an agreement with Anthem Sports & Entertainment. This is based on feedback from the latest Impact Wrestling tapings, which took place on Wednesday.
This new tidbit from the WWE rumor mill may explain the fact that Matt was still refraining from speaking in an exaggerated accent and was not using too many big words while on commentary for this week’s Monday Night RAW match between Cesaro and Finn Balor. But on a broader level, this could mean that fans hoping to see the Broken Universe make its official WWE debut may have to wait a bit longer before this even comes close to happening.

As previously reported by Uproxx, the signs of the “Broken” Matt Hardy gimmick making its way to WWE months after Matt and Jeff Hardy returned to the company were in the air over the weekend, as Matt tweeted that he and his family was “days away from winning” their “great war,” presumably referring to the legal battle with Anthem over the Broken Universe gimmicks. This was backed up by a report on Wrestling Observer Radio that suggested both sides were indeed having talks, and the Hardys and Anthem were “real close” to a settlement.
Aside from the Hardys not being able to use their Broken Universe gimmicks due to legal issues with Anthem, previous reports have suggested that WWE isn’t planning to have them regain the RAW Tag Team Championships. As the Inquisitr noted, this is despite the likelihood that Sheamus, who co-holds the RAW tag team belts with Cesaro, may be taken off television to film the upcoming movie, The Buddy Games.
Could another loss to Sheamus and Cesaro at WWE’s Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view on Sunday mean a chance for “Broken” Matt Hardy to arrive, despite PWInsider‘s assertion that the Hardys and Anthem aren’t as close to an agreement as once thought? That’s mostly speculative at this point in the game, but given that the Hardy Boyz did well in keeping their WWE return a secret ahead of WrestleMania 33, it just might be possible that a loss at Great Balls of Fire may be the catalyst Matt needs to become “Broken” once again, with younger brother Jeff, aka “Brother Nero,” possibly following suit.
