Anne Hathaway Calls Wardrobe Malfunction ‘Sad,’ Blames Us [Video]

Yesterday’s media blitz on Anne Hathaway’s Les Mis premiere wardrobe malfunction caught the actress’s attention this morning when she addressed her panty-less parade on the Today show with Matt Lauer.

Instead of talking about Les Mis, Lauer led with Monday’s wardrobe malfunction (he literally said the words “seen a lot of you lately” to Hathaway). Hathaway put on the self-righteous hat and gave the media a bit of a knuckle-rapping for running the photos and making such a big deal out of the whole thing.

“It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment, and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies the sexuality of unwilling participants. Which brings us back to Les Mis […] So lets get back to Les Mis.”

The Daily Mail reports that the 30-year-old actress was initially “devastated” by the shots, but she showed some serious poise on Today if you ask us. Of course, her seemingly smug response will cause that part of the internet that hates all-things Anne Hathaway to hate her all the more, but we have to hand it to her for how she handled this.

“Mom tone” and finger-wagging notwithstanding, this is exactly how you handle an embarrassing moment. You acknowledge it, and you move on quickly.

Nicely done, Anne Hathaway. Some may hate you, but we applaud you for how you handled your wardrobe malfunction. Here’s Hathaway on Today:
