Is Kim Kardashian Wearing Blackface In Her New Makeup Ad? Twitter Sure Thinks So

Kim Kardashian has come under fire since tweeting an ad for her new contour creme, where she was featured as the model. While her hair looked flawless, her skin tone had some people scratching their heads.

This new ad is to promote Kim Kardashian’s new makeup line, KKW Beauty, due out at the end of this month It’s been hard for some people to focus on the effectiveness of the products, however. In the photo, which you can view down the page, Kim Kardashian appears several shades darker than she usually dfoes. While some people have argued that her skin is simply tanned, a larger portion of social media have accused her of wearing blackface.

Twitter user @WickedBeaute wrote, “Kim K did blackface. Which is why she deleted her tweet. But I won’t get into that bc I know how delusional her Black & non Black stans are.”

Meanwhile, @seniWnitsuA wrote, “Black women get told to lighten meanwhile Kim spends her entire career in perpetual Black face and is lauded for her beauty.”

And @RealJasminLeigh wrote, “I love Kim but that’s def black face in the form of makeup she is no where near that dark.”

This is not the first time Kim Kardashian and her family have been accused of being racially insensitive. Since the Kardashian family gained fame a decade ago, they’ve been accused of appropriating other cultures, especially African-American culture, on a near regular basis.

The Revelist published an article earlier this year, titled “9 times the Kardashians stole their looks from Black women.” In it, they broke down nine occasions that the Kardashians had taken popular looks from the black community that have often been looked down on by other cultures and have been praised for being trendy and fashion forward.

Among them was the world’s fixation with Kylie Jenner’s surgically enhanced lips and fiery red wigs, Khloe Kardashian’s Bantu knots, and, most notably, Kim Kardashian and her “boxer braids.”

First, the braids are called box braids. Second, Kim Kardashian isn’t even wearing box braids in the photo; she’s wearing two cornrows. Box braids are actually small or large individual braids or plaits that are usually done with the aid of extensions. Yet, the photo above went viral once Kim was credited with bringing “boxer” braids back into style, despite the fact that black women and men have never stopped sporting the popular style, which Kim isn’t even wearing.

Social media was not happy with that either. No matter what criticism Kim Kardashian and co. receive, however, it’s clear that they march to their own beat when it comes to their fashion choices. Criticism hasn’t deterred them in the past, and it probably won’t now either.
