Pretty Little Liars Season 7 is nearly finished and everyone is wondering what will happen during the final episodes. One character viewers have been talking about is Mona Vanderwaal. In an interview, Janel Parrish discussed Mona and her obsession with the board game.

PLL spoilers are ahead. If you do not want to know what is coming up on the Freeform series, then stop reading.

Mona Vanderwaal‘s obsession with the Pretty Little Liars board game was discussed by Janel Parrish and TV Insider shared all the details. Her strange love affair with the game has viewers concerned and suspicious. The creepiness will reach new heights next week when Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) uses his hacking skills, which leads him to Mona’s door. This has fans wondering if Mona is A.D., but that would be too obvious. Besides, Mona has already been the villain once. To do it again would be boring, disappointing, and redundant.

So, why is Mona so infatuated with the board game on PLL? It is because she lived the villainess life before and in a sense, she is addicted to it. The board game is seducing her and drawing her into its twisted, crazy madness.

“Over the next few episodes, she starts to get more involved with the gang, but with that comes a little bit of darkness. She said to Hanna [Ashley Benson], ‘You’re dealing with an addict. I was addicted to this life and I’m scared to touch it,’ but the more she becomes involved in with the more she gets seduced by the game. Which side is going win, the dark side of Mona or the good side of Mona where she wants to help her friends? But that’s what makes the character fun since you never know what she’s going to do.”

During the interview, Janel Parrish hinted that Mona is not A.D., the Pretty Little Liars Season 7 villain. So, why is she pushing so hard to help Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), and Hanna?

Fans need to remember what Mona was like before Alison turned her into one of the popular girls at Rosewood High School. Years ago, a flashback showed that Mona was shy, insecure, didn’t put much effort into her appearance, and wore glasses. Alison decided to reinvent Mona, which changed everything for her.

These days on PLL, Mona seems confident, pushy, and demanding, and takes some serious risks. However, her old personality is still underneath all the fashionable clothes and layers of makeup. She is still somewhat insecure and wants to “belong.” Most people would walk away if they were not wanted in a group, but not Mona. She insists on getting involved and helping the Liars. Even though she insists it is because she could face penalties for fixing Spencer’s car that fateful night, there is more to the story. It has to do with her self-esteem, wanting to be liked, and to feel like she belongs somewhere.

“Yes, you do feel bad for her because at this point she has proven her allegiance and has been trying to help them through some pretty bad stuff. She’s come out on top and proven her loyalty. But it’s funny, whenever she gets puppy-eyed and she goes, ‘I don’t understand why you guys don’t trust me,’ and it’s like, ‘Well, you did some pretty bad things. You also hit your best friend with a car!”

As for Mona knowing about Aria working for the enemy, that is easily explained. Mona is observant and pays attention to the small things around her. In the coffee shop, Aria received a message from A.D. Instead of acting naturally, Aria looked guilty and suspicious, giving it away that she was up to something. While everyone else was busy chatting, looking at their phones, and sipping coffee, Mona was paying attention.

However, will the board game lure Mona to the dark side? Or will she overcome the seduction and solve the final PLL mystery? Fans will have to keep watching to find out.
