Tour de France To Soar Higher With Greater Climbs In 2010

Paris, France (AHN) – Between its grand start in Rotterdam and its finish at Champs-Elysées in Paris, riders will face greater climbing challenges in the 2010 edition of the Tour de France.
The course for next year’s event unveiled Thursday features a total of seven mountain stages.
It will also consist of a summit finish on top of the Pyrenean Col du Tourmalet three days from the end.
Aside from the tournament’s route, considered one of the toughest in the world, the rivalry between American racing legend Lance Armstrong and two-time Tour winner Alberto Contador of Spain will be interesting to watch.
The former Astana teammates parted ways after the record seven-time Tour winner Armstrong announced in July his return to the Tour next year with RadioShack as his team’s new main sponsor.
Adding twist to the rivalry is the jumping of ship of the bulk of Contador’s Astana Team to Armstrong’s 2010 squad, including Mark Cavendish, winner of 10 stages in the past two Tours.
The next Tour event will remain as open as the 2009 race with only one major time-trial, slated on the final Saturday.
