‘America’s Got Talent’ Golden Buzzer: Formerly Blind Teen Left Simon Cowell Speechless With ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’


America’s Got Talent golden buzzer was awarded to 16-year-old Christian Guardino, a young singer who was formerly visually impaired, because of his rendition of the Jackson 5’s “Who’s Lovin’ You.”

This year’s season of AGT has been proven to be a talent contest that has more heart and soul as another talented singer who has an inspiring story to tell was given the direct pass to the live shows through of the golden buzzer.

Christian Guardino, a teen who has been passionate for music his whole life, has just overcome one obstacle when achieved a triumph after he joined NBC’s popular talent show.

Performing the Jackson 5’s “Who’s Lovin’ You,” the 16-year-old contestant astounded the judges and the audience of with his powerful performance that is worthy of an America’s Got Talent golden buzzer.

Right after giving Guardino a standing ovation for the act, Simon Cowell, who is known for being opinionated and has criticized many talented artists over the years, asked for ten seconds to gather his thoughts on what to say about his performance, Entertainment Weekly noted.

When the applause finally died down, Simon told Christian that he has just become one of his favorite contestants.

“You were like a little mouse that turned into a lion. You are one of my favorite contestants I’ve seen this year. Not only in terms of your voice. I just like you,” Simon told Christian as reported by People.

“There’s something about you, and it’s just the best possible feeling when we meet someone like you.”

On top of that, Howie Mandel also asked what Guardino would have wanted if one of his wishes would come true right at that moment. When the talented teenager asked for the America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer, Mandel obliged instantaneously.

After the confetti went off, Christian was joined by his mother, Elizabeth Guardino, on stage—both of them tearing up for the golden opportunity that awaits the young singer.

Christian lives with his mother in Long Island, New York. On Tuesday’s episode of AGT, Elizabeth revealed that her son was recently cured of blindness. In fact, his story was featured in a National Geographic feature titled “Why There’s New Hope About Ending Blindness.”

According to the article which appeared in the September 2016 issue of the magazine, Christian suffered from a disease of the retina known as Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA). After receiving gene therapy treatment in 2012, he was cured of blindness at the age of 12.

Now, just a couple of years after overcoming one hurdle, Christian triumphs at another with the help of America’s Got Talent golden buzzer from Howie Mandel.

He will be joining other golden buzzer contestants including 12-year-old singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer who got Mel B’s attention and 29-year-old deaf singer Mandy Harvey who impressed Simon Cowell so much that he had to make sure she gets through to the live shows.
