Google To Open Online Bookstore To Rival Amazon’s

Miami, FL (AHN) – Internet technology powerhouse, Google has announced plans to open an online bookstore in 2010. Google Editions will host 500,000 e-books on their platform and customers will be able to buy books from a Google directory or from online stores.
A Google executive told journalists at the Franfurt Book Fair that the company plans on selling electronic books to any device that has a Web browser. The move seems to be an attempt to hone in on Amazon’s current market domination with its Kindle e-reader.
According to published reports Google will host and offer the e-books through deals with publishers. Google will keep 55 percent of the profits with an untold majority going to retailers and the balance going to the publisher.
Google says its foray into this arena will allow retail partners another avenue to sell their books. It should be especially attractive to those who haven’t invested in a digital platform.
