Meghan Markle’s birthday is still a couple of months away, but Prince Harry is already planning something special for his lady love, reports suggest. And rightfully so, as this is the first time he’s celebrating Markle’s birthday as her official boyfriend.
According to the Daily Star, Prince Harry is dropping £31,000 (around $40,000) on a lavish gift for his American girlfriend’s special day.
Prince Harry’s “Mini” Gift
According to a royal insider, Prince Harry reportedly has his eyes on getting a Mini Cooper for Meghan Markle, who is turning 36-years-old this August 4. The Mini is famous for its cute size but powerful engine. The luxury vehicle was made even more famous in the 2003 heist movie The Italian Job, where it took center stage as the characters’ getaway vehicle.
“Harry is convinced this is a great gift for Meg. She’ll be able to nip around London yet stay fairly anonymous.”
Prince Harry is said to already have contacted car dealer Dick Lovett to facilitate the purchase. On top of his list is an exclusive John Cooper Works Countryman model. However, there’s one tiny catch. This model only comes in manual gear and Meghan Markle reportedly does not know how to drive shift-stick.
Not to worry, though, as Prince Harry is more than able to teach his lady what with his military driving experience. In fact, Meghan’s little handicap may even be a way for the young couple to bond together.
“Meghan is used to driving automatics so Harry says he will have to teach her how to use a gearstick. He has his advanced recon driving skills from his time in the Army so he could teach her a thing or two.”
A Birthday Proposal?
Aside from the luxury car, can Meghan Markle expect another gift from Prince Harry–like a diamond engagement ring? Rumors are rife that the British prince is seriously considering to propose to the Suits actress on or before her birthday.
Prince Harry is reportedly looking for a country home in Norfolk, near Prince William and Kate Middleton. Apparently, the 32-year-old royal bachelor is already considering a place to settle down in the near future, the Daily Star reported.
“Harry has family on his mind more than ever…with an engagement looming and potentially the patter of tiny feet, Harry is house-hunting big time.”
According to the royal insider, Prince Harry is looking for a not-too-big private property, not unlike his brother Prince William’s Anmer Hall residence in Norfolk. A top candidate is the 17th-century Twyford Hall, which suits the prince’s “relaxed” lifestyle. With only eight bedrooms and ample land where he can play his sports, the estate seems to fit the bill.
“None of the properties are too big or ostentatious – that’s not his style. But agents have been briefed there needs to be enough land for a polo field. That’s always been his dream. He wants a relaxed country pad he can retreat to at weekends to join his wife and kids, entertain his mates and live a normal life.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started dating late last year. The two made their first official public outing last May 7 at a polo match in Ascot, England. The couple gave royal watchers much to talk about when they were spotted kissing at a parking lot after the game. Proving that their relationship is serious, Prince Harry brought Meghan to Pippa Middleton’s wedding reception last May 20 as his plus one.
The couple seems to be making their long-distance relationship work despite the odds. Prince Harry is currently in Sydney, Australia, to promote Invictus Games, a Paralympic tournament he organized for wounded and disabled soldiers. In September, he will be bringing Invictus Games to Toronto, where Meghan Markle is based.
