Lauren Conrad’s Expectations On Becoming A Mom This Summer: ‘It’ll Be a Lot Less Sleep’

Lauren Conrad 31, is expecting her first child with husband William Tell this summer. Conrad recently revealed the gender of the baby and it’s a boy. Lauren sat down with People magazine to discuss her new pop-up shop with Lord & Taylor and major changes she’s expecting once she delivers’ her son.

“I see our lives changing… I think you don’t know until you’re there. I have very nice friends who are attempting to prepare me, but everybody does it differently.”

Lauren knows there will be many sleepless nights. “It’s going to be a lot less sleep, so that’ll be an adjustment, but we’re excited.”

Once the baby arrives, Conrad said she will be surrounded by a ton of supportive family members. “William and I are so fortunate that we’re having the first grandchild on both sides… Both of our families live about 20 minutes from us so I think we’ll have a lot of help, which is really great.”

Conrad also said that Tell is prepared and excited to embrace his new role as a dad.

“I think that guys have to meet their kid and really be there before they feel like a parent… Whereas as a woman, you had a relationship with this tiny person for so long! I’m excited to see how it works out.”

One thing the founder of Paper Crown and LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s is leaving up to chance is her maternity leave.

“I’m giving myself a terrible maternity break,” she says. “I’m trying to get a couple weeks and we’ll see. Fortunately, I have great partners in all of my companies and they’re going to be flexible with me. I’m going to attempt to take two weeks of a blackout — no emails or anything — and then I’ll have to just figure it out from there.”

The 31-year-old star and mom-to-be has been busy expanding her labels. Conrad will be launching maternity clothes for her LC Lauren Conrad line at Kohl’s. In addition to this, Conrad is launching a full-on pop-up shop at Lord & Taylor for her Paper Crown special occasion line, which means her clothes get a whole section of the retailer’s New York City dress floor.

“It’s a really exciting thing to be a part of… When a company likes Lord & Taylor invites you to be part of an event like this, it’s a compliment to the brand you’ve built and that they think enough of you. It’s really an honor.”

The major accomplishment in Laren’s design career is just one of her many goals achieved. Lauren said she thrives when she is busy. “I like having at least one big thing a day that I can check off my list to feel productive,” she says. And that goes for not just her work life, but her personal life too.

While awaiting the arrival of her son, Conrad has taken up crafting. “I take on a very simple project that I can craft, like knitting or needlepoint.”

Conrad said this is also her go-to stress reliever, “It’s a mindless thing, but I can still be creative and have fun with it. I just did my first wall weaving, and that was really fun but definitely time-consuming.”

Lauren confessed that she is actually “thrilled to be having a boy.”

“I really wanted a boy… My husband [musician William Tell] kept saying, ‘We just want a healthy baby.’ And I’d say, ‘But a boy would be nice!’ “

Lauren said she was a tomboy growing up and added, “I think I understand boys. My mom always told me that nobody loves you like a son does, especially when he’s young.”
