Joseph Duggar and his fiancée, Kendra Caldwell, recently went on a date, and the preacher’s daughter showed off more skin than Counting On fans are used to seeing.
When Joseph Duggar, 22, weds Kendra Caldwell, 18, he’ll become the first Duggar son to get married since Josh Duggar said “I do” to his wife, Anna, in 2008. Because of this, Joseph’s wedding will likely be a very big deal to longtime Duggar fans, and the pressure is on to plan a ceremony that will wow Counting On viewers. However, Joseph and Kendra don’t seem to be stressing out over their wedding just yet. For now, they’re enjoying the perks of being engaged, which include parental permission to hold hands.
The Duggars discourage their kids from holding hands with their significant others before they get engaged because they fear that too much physical contact may tempt young couples to have premarital sex. However, engaged couples are allowed to hold hands because their struggles with those temptations will soon be over; Duggar engagements are never very long.
Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell took full advantage of being engaged during a recent trip to one of the Duggar family’s favorite amusement parks, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. In a photo shared on the Duggar Family Official Facebook page, Joseph and his fiancée are pictured holding hands on a ride.
Some fans may notice that Kendra Caldwell is showing off quite a bit of leg in the picture. This is surprising because Joseph Duggar’s mother, Michelle Duggar, believes that baring any amount of thigh is a big no-no. In a TLC blog post, the former 19 Kids and Counting star shares her views on modest dress and what the Bible says about which body parts should be covered up.
“We felt like we needed to be covered from our neck to below our knees mainly because God talks about the thigh being uncovered, and how that’s nakedness and shame,” Michelle writes.
However, Michelle also claims that she and her family members “don’t judge anyone that doesn’t have this perspective,” so this may explain why she was okay with the photo of Joseph’s fiancée being shared on her family’s Facebook page. It also appears that Kendra Caldwell may be wearing a longer skirt with tight shorts underneath it, but the harness on the ride is causing it to hike up. In other words, her attire probably meets the Duggars’ modesty standards.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell have made it clear that they plan on following the Duggar family’s strict courtship/engagement guidelines. They even revealed that they followed a rule that many fans probably weren’t previously aware of. In their engagement announcement video, Kendra revealed that she and Joseph weren’t allowed to say “I love you” to each other until they got engaged. The couple won’t kiss until they get married, and all of their dates will continue to be chaperoned.
As People reports, Kendra has confessed that she was getting a little handsy with her man before they became an engaged couple. Her habit of reaching into Joseph’s pockets almost spoiled the surprise when he popped the question during his younger sister’s wedding reception.
“He had the ring in his pocket so when I went to go help myself and grab mints out of his pocket, he grabbed at his pocket and I pulled my hand away. But then I quickly forgot about it,” said Kendra.
The future bride revealed that she was “just shocked” when Joseph got down on one knee, likely because she did not expect him to do it two hours into Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth’s wedding reception. As the Inquisitr previously reported, this proved to be a controversial move, but Joseph said that Joy-Anna and Austin gave him their blessing to temporarily take the focus away from the newlyweds on their big day.
According to Joseph Duggar, he and his fiancée will likely become man and wife sometime this fall.
