Is Angelina Jolie Joining ‘X-Men 7’? Actress Not Tapped For A Role In ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ [Debunked]

Is Angelina Jolie joining X-Men 7? That is the question raised by a recent speculation suggesting that Fox may be eyeing the UN ambassador for a role in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

According to Screen Rant, word about Fox courting the A-list actress has been going around since Meet the Movie Press host Jeff Sneider tossed in her name as a possible candidate for a role in the seventh X-Men movie.

While speaking about Jolie as a possible candidate for the lead in Bride of Frankenstein, Sneider chimed in the need for the actress, who has recently been off the market for big films after her divorce with Brad Pitt, to return to the silver screen in a big way.

“I think Angelina Jolie needs to reassert her commercial viability and needs to do a big movie,” Sneider said.

“And if it’s not Dark Phoenix—which I don’t think it will be—then, I think that she should do Bride of Frankenstein.”

Although his statement did not clearly declare that the 42-year-old mother-of-six is indeed being tapped for a role in both films, Movie Web agrees with the host about Jolie reasserting “her commercial viability” especially after the movies she directed didn’t exactly make it big since she did not appear in them.

Taking a chance with a huge franchise like Fox’s the X-Men would definitely be worth a shot considering that it has already been proven to be a great avenue to launch careers like it did for Hugh Jackman. Of course, the name Angelina Jolie in itself is already very marketable and the franchise would be benefiting far more than she ever could from it should she really join the X-Men.

In fact, Screen Rant suggested that it would not be surprising if Fox did cast Angelina for an X-Men role considering that all other hero universes, particularly Marvel and DC, have big names on their cast list. With this in mind, competing with an actress like Jolie in their films would definitely give Fox’s X-Men universe an edge.

Still, Sneider did say that Angelina Jolie joining X-Men 7 may not really happen. In fact, he clarified his statement at the Meet the Movie Press episode over social media after one user suggested a possible Wanted reunion in reference to Jolie’s 2008 film with James McAvoy who played young Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Aside from debunking rumors about Jolie joining X-Men 7, Sneider may have sparked yet another rumor about Dark Phoenix, particularly one about Jessica Chastain joining the sequel.

According to ComicBookMovie.com, Jessica and James co-starred in the 2014 film The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby which, based on simple analysis of the post, would mean that the 40-year-old actress may be the one to join the upcoming X-Men movie.

Of course, this remains as a speculation until someone from Fox or the X-Men universe confirms it.

What we do know from all these information is that X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be featuring a new female character that will have a major impact on the franchise as it requires an A-list actress such as Angelina Jolie and Jessica Chastain.

To top that off, Screen Rant is under the impression that the character in question would be someone from the storyline of the Shi’ar Empire, with Princess-Majestrix Lilandra Neramani, the Empress of Shi’ar, as their best guess.

What has been confirmed so far is that Dark Phoenix is being slated for a 2018 release and would feature familiar faces from the most recent X-Men movies, including Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Alexandra Shipp (Storm) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler).
