Transgender Models Make A Big Splash In Brazil

Transgender models in Brazil are reportedly a big hit with fashion fans. The South American nation has long been known for producing beautiful models that walk down runways around the globe. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, Alessandra Amrbrioso, and Adriana Lima are some of the most well-known Brazilian models of recent years.

A new type of model is attracting attention. The transgender or trans-models first emerged on the scene in Brazil about two years ago. The models have added a “pinch of exoticism” to the country already regarded for its modeling sector showcase, according to Fox News Latino.

The popularity of transgender models also reportedly marks a shift in thinking by segments of the Brazilian society. The South American nation’s views on gay rights have allegedly softened in recent years. Homophobic attitudes and machismo mindsets have also reportedly taken a nose as transgender models become more popular in Brazil.

40 Graus Models Director Sergio Mattos had this to say about the change in Brazilian society and trans-models:

“We are in the 21st century and there is just more tolerance in the air. Here in Brazil we now have gay mayors, gay lawmakers. So why not trans-models? The world has evolved and now discrimination is, thankfully, becoming a thing of the past.”

Felipa Tavares is one of the most popular models in Brazil; she just happens to have been born a man. Felipa’s long legs and high cheekbones have earned her throngs of adoring fans and a plethora of modeling gigs. The South American trans-gender models are earning a name for themselves not only in Brazil but in Paris and New York City as well.
