‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 6 Spoilers: Update On 2018 Release Date, Departure Of Popular Character
Orange is the New Black‘s Season 5 is all over for the more serious binge watchers, and now attention has turned to spoilers for Season 6 of the Netflix prison drama, including when the next season of Orange is the New Black will be released.
This was a bit of an unusual season for the show, with large portions of the season already leaking to the internet several weeks ago, thanks to a group of hackers. So many viewers came into Friday’s early morning premiere already knowing whether Daya pulled the trigger on the guard she had held at gunpoint, and whether the prisoners could find a measure of justice for Poussey’s death.
But the leak didn’t cover the entire season, so there were still plenty of OITNB surprises for fans to learn over the weekend.
That has led to one of the biggest questions — just when will Orange is the New Black come back, and what’s going to happen in Season 6?

There is good news for fans of Orange is the New Black, with Netflix already deciding to extend its run by at least two seasons. The renewal was actually announced back in February, 2016, with Variety noting that is got a big vote of confidence with a three-season renewal to take the show through 2019. It was the longest commitment for any television series in recent memory, the report noted.
“Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life,’ is a curse, but I don’t live in those cultures,” said showrunner Jenji Kohan. “Here’s to keeping it interesting. Thanks Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers… with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. So, when will the next season of Orange is the New Black be released?
While Netflix has yet to release any information about Orange is the New Black‘s Season 6 release date, Den of Geek noted that it’s been following a fairly predictable pattern ever since the debut of the second season.
“Nothing is confirmed, but seasons 2-5 all released in June. If they follow that trend, we can expect Orange Is The New Black Season 6 sometime in June 2018,” the report noted.
There may be a way to refine the Orange is the New Black Season 6 release date even further. Netflix traditionally releases the show in the very early morning hours (at least, for those on the American East Coast) on a Friday, so it’s likely that the next OITNB will hit Netflix on either June 8, 2018, or June 15, 2018.

So while the release date for Orange is the New Black Season 6 is very likely determined, there is still the question of what might happen next year. While there have not yet been any particular spoilers about what will happen to the women of Lichtfield — and there may not be for at least several weeks until filming begins — there are some details about what the season will look like.
Pop Sugar noted that next season will likely be the last for Piper Chapman — unless she finds her way into new trouble.
“Another suspicion we have is that season six will be the last we see of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). She’s supposed to be getting out of prison pretty soon (her sentence was for 15 months for her pretty minor role in Alex Vause’s drug cartel), which is probably one of the reasons season five takes place over the course of only three days — to pad the timeline. Unless she does something to lengthen her sentence, it’ll be hard to justify keeping her in prison until season seven rolls around.”
