Justin Bieber, David Guetta’s Emotional EDM Smash ‘2U’ Hits No. 1 on US iTunes, Leads Bieber Top 3

Justin Bieber and David’s first collaborative single “2U” is here — and it’s an absolute banger.

On its release, the EDM-Pop song quickly took over the top ranks and No. 1 position on iTunes Sales charts in 62 countries, including the U.S.

The new “Song of the Summer” contender touched down early Friday, as previously announced by Bieber and Guetta.

Within a few hours, “2U” sat atop the U.S. iTunes Singles Sales chart, which saw Justin dethrone himself.

Bieber has been No. 1 for days on U.S. iTunes, thanks to his feature on Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” remix.

Before Guetta triumphantly tweeted that “2U” had reached the summit of U.S. iTunes, some Justin Bieber fans tweeted that the Canadian star has a pattern of replacing himself on that chart.

At press time, “2U” rules U.S. iTunes. Bieber is No. 2 with “Despacito,” and No. 3 with DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One.”

It’s the superstar’s third No. 1 on the chart in less than two months.

His previous #1’s are the aforementioned “Despacito” remix and “I’m The One,” on which the heartthrob features alongside Lil Wayne, Chance The Rapper, and Migos’ Quavo.

“2U” also debuted at #1 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart.

In the run-up to “2U’s” release, hype was built via tasteful teaser videos, which star six Victoria’s Secret models — Romee Strijd, Stella Maxwell, Martha Hunt, Jasmine Tookes, Sara Sampaio, and Elsa Hosk.

The single is streaming on the usual platforms, including Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, SoundCloud, Tidal, Amazon, and YouTube.

As expected, a full-length music video featuring all six Victoria’s Secret models was uploaded on Guetta’s YouTube channel earlier today.

The black-and-white video shows the models lip-syncing to the new single clad in underwear and casual garments.

Described as “just a very romantic love song” by Guetta to MTV UK, the song lyrics naturally reflect that.

“No limit in the sky / That I won’t fly for ya / No amount of tears in my eyes / That I won’t cry for ya, oh no,” Justin sings, in appealingly sensitive mode.

Similar intense love declarations follow. “With every breath that I take / I want you to share that air with me.”

Bieber vows, “There’s no promise that I won’t keep / I’ll climb a mountain, there’s none too steep.”

Interestingly, “2U’s” chorus functions as a bridge, in that it builds and deliver listeners to a pay-off hook.

“When it comes to you” is the signature line. After which, Justin tells a lover he wants to “take both of our souls / And intertwine.”

The pop prince continues to make his case for either a new relationship or deeper commitment in an existing one.

In the mostly satisfactory chorus, the Biebs sings, “Want you to share that / It comes to you.”

Refreshingly, Guetta’s production touch on “2U” is lighter than his usual sound, which allows Justin’s emotive voice to bring sensuality and feeling to the song and lyrics.

During his MTV UK chat, Guetta revealed his aim with “2U” was to create “a combination of emotional parts and the energy of crazy electronic dance beats.”

The veteran producer-DJ added, “That what I do, and that’s what I like. I like making the people dance, but with a tear in their eyes.”

There was a fair amount of mixed anticipation about the Guetta-Bieber team-up before the single was released.

Widely considered to possess one of the loveliest male voices in pop, Justin’s ongoing stratospheric career after storming back to ascendancy with his acclaimed, six-million-selling Purpose album means he can work with anyone.

Before “2U” was released, some Beliebers expressed doubts online that Guetta was the right fit for their boy.

Based on the post-drop online reactions of numerous Bieber fans — and “2U’s” undeniable iTunes chart success story — it’s evident that Guetta and Bieber’s first collaboration is a summer beach party, club-ready hit.

An additional grace note amid the euphoria of “2U’s” debut day is the warm statement Guetta released.

“Justin has such a unique voice,” the French star wrote. “And I have so much respect for his talent but also for his choices.”

Expanding on his praise, Guetta went on, “He took some risks reinventing himself lately in such a cool amazing creative way.”

“I’m very proud to finally share a record with him,” the producer shared.

Bieber’s well-deserved Renaissance continues.
