‘America’s Got Talent’ Auditions: Deaf Singer Defies The Odds With Golden Buzzer Performance

When you have a passion for something, you go for it, no matter what obstacles life may throw at you. That is exactly what Mandy Harvey proved last night on America’s Got Talent 2017. She may be deaf, but that is not going to stop her from pursuing her one passion, which is singing. Check out Mandy’s audition on America’s Got Talent Season 12 below.

Last night on AGT 2017, we ended the night with a very shocking performance (and very emotional, as well). Mandy Harvey took the stage, and she had her interpreter with her. This came as a shock to many, especially when she said she would be singing. This doesn’t normally happen, right?

However, Harvey has had a passion for singing her entire life. She was attending college for music, but at the age of 18, she started to notice some pain in her ears. She thought this was an earache and nothing more. Mandy started to notice her hearing was getting worse and worse. It was finally determined that she had connective tissue disorder, and it has since made her lose her hearing.

The passion for singing is still there for Harvey, so ten years later, she walked onto that stage on America’s Got Talent 2017. After removing her shoes, which she said helped her to feel the vibrations of the music and stay on-beat, she sang an original song. The song was titled “Try,” which told her story of wanting to do more with her life after wanting to give up on everything.

There was not a dry eye in the building, as everyone was moved to tears over this emotional song and performance. It was just amazing to see, as the crowd stood on their feet cheering for Mandy. Once they stood up, you could see the smile come over her face. She was living her dream and was enjoying every moment of it.

She also earned a standing ovation from the judges on America’s Got Talent 2017, as Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all stood up for her. Normally, the judges would give their critiques and then make a decision on whether or not the act should move on to the next round. That was not needed though, as Cowell piped in and said that she was not “going to need a translator for this.” He then stood up and hit that Golden Buzzer.

That meant Mandy Harvey was heading directly to the live shows on AGT Season 12. The confetti came streaming down and so did the tears on Mandy’s face. Simon joined her on stage and told her some very incredible words after giving her a big hug.

“It was incredible. I’ve done this a long time. That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen and heard.”

It truly was an amazing thing to see. Mandy has such a unique sound to her voice and that indie vibe going on. She clearly has the story to write some very emotional lyrics. This could be the start of something amazing for her. As Simon stated, you never know what you are going to get when it comes to these auditions on America’s Got Talent Season 12.

“Honestly, I never think I’m gonna be surprised or amazed by people, and then you turn up. Just the fact that you are you, but it was your voice, your tone, the song was beautiful.”

Mandy Harvey joins last week’s other Golden Buzzer performer, Darci Lynne. She wowed the judges with her ventriloquist act and earned the Golden Buzzer from Mel B. Now we have two spots taken in the live shows, but Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel still have their Golden Buzzers to hand out.
