A shocking Instagram post reveals one member of the Gallagher family won’t be returning for Shameless‘ Season 8.

Shameless fans have been anxiously biting their fingernails as they wait for news regarding Season 8 since Season 7 came to an end in December of last year. Regrettably, it appears as if the first piece of Shameless Season 8 news is not something fans want to know as it has been learned a member of the Gallagher family is walking away from the show.

Those who have watched all of Shameless Season 7 likely would have guessed it was Carl (played by Ethan Cutkosky) who was going to be walking away. After all, he was accepted into military school and didn’t have a very big role in Season 7. He did, however, come home when Monica passed away. Those who are fans of Carl Gallagher may find bittersweet relief in the fact that it isn’t Ethan who is walking away from the show. According to the shocking Instagram post, it is Brenden and Brandon Sims (who share the role of Liam Gallagher) that will not be a part of Season 8.

According to Hidden Remote, the mother of Brenden and Brandon Sims shared a picture of the Season 7 Shameless cast with a caption that revealed the boys would not be a part of Season 8.

In the Instagram post, Brenden and Brandon’s mother revealed the boys would miss their Gallagher family and their role as Liam. She also took a moment to wish the rest of the Shameless cast success with the filming of Season 8.

The shocking Instagram post has been averaging roughly 100 comments an hour for the first three hours before tapering off, and none of the Shameless fans appear to be happy with this decision. The comment section is littered with the words “what,” “why,” and “no” in all capital letters with lots of question marks and exclamation points. Some claim to be “heartbroken” by this decision. Some are even asking how the production team can expect fans of the series to just forget about Liam Gallagher for Season 8 of the series.

What is going to happen to Liam Gallagher?

This shocking Shameless Season 8 news has sent the fans of the Showtime series into a bit of a panic. The biggest question being simple – what exactly is going to happen to the role of Liam Gallagher? Being the youngest member of the Gallagher family, it doesn’t really make a lot of sense for the role to be cut.

Fortunately, the boy’s mother has left an additional comment in her own Instagram post. While the comment was short and sweet, it revealed a new actor had been cast in the role of Liam. The mother of the Sims twins also commented a second time thanking everyone for their support.

The revelation that Brenden and Brandon Sims walking away from the show was simply because the role of Liam Gallagher had been recast gave Shameless fans a glimmer of bittersweet relief. While they wouldn’t have to say goodbye to little Liam, they would have to say goodbye to the sweet faces of the Sims twins. Fans can also take this shocking Shameless news to mean Season 8 is going to come with a bit of a time skip.

A time skip would certainly make it easier for Ethan Cutkosky’s character Carl Gallagher to return to the main story line. In theory, the time skip could be far enough that Carl could be done with military school. A time skip would certainly make it easier for the Gallagher family – especially Frank – to move on from the traffic death of Monica.

It is unclear whether the Sims twins do not have a role at all in Season 8 or if they did have a few scenes before being cut. A previous post on Instagram has some fans questioning if the twins did have a few scenes before walking away from the series. A few days ago, the mother of the Sims twins shared a picture of the boys “studying their lines.”

Naturally, most assumed these were Shameless Season 8 lines the boys were learning. Could the twins make an appearance before the assumed time skip where a new actor takes on the role of Liam Gallagher? Only time will tell!
