Ariel Winter Makes Jokes About Herself As She Poses In Bikini

Ariel Winter knows when to be serious, and she knows when to laugh at herself as the young actress makes jokes at her own expense in her latest Instagram post.

The 19-year-old shared another look from her body confidence swimsuit shoot with Refinery29 on social media this weekend, but this time she was a bit more light-hearted with the caption. Ariel is seen posing in a black bikini top with what appears to be an unzipped wetsuit sitting on her hips.

The Modern Family actress is holding a vintage telephone as a prop, which explains her humorous caption.

“Talking about how I have the swimming skills of a young child thrown in without floaties.”

It seems Winter isn’t afraid to laugh at herself as she questions her child-like swimming skills in front of her 3.3 million Instagram followers. Instagram users went on to leave their own jokes on Ariel’s post as some questioned why she had a rotary phone at the beach and others made not-so-subtle floatation device comments.

One commenter brought up the new Baywatch movie as they joked Winter was trying to call to claim a spot on the film.

“Hello? Baywatch? Is it to late to sign up?”

All jokes aside, some of Winter’s fans commented about the substance of her body confidence interview as they thanked her for being genuine.

Another fan stated Ariel is proving to be a powerful voice for millennials as she works towards body acceptance.

Before making jokes about her skills in the water, Ariel shared a more serious caption with her followers as she addressed headlines regarding her Refinery29 article. The outlet also covered Winter’s need to defend her interview as some stories focused on the fact she lives with her 29-year-old boyfriend, Levi Meaden, instead of what was truly intended by her statements.

“This week, Winter had to clarify for the press the intention behind an interview she gave to Refinery29. After several outlets highlighted a quote about Winter’s boyfriend Levi Meaden, the actress made a statement on Instagram.”

Ariel wrote a lengthy response to those headlines in question as she stated her vintage swimsuit photo shoot and interview were intended to help people overcome body image issues.

“The point [of the interview] was to take back the beach and help people understand that the beach should be a safe space to go as you please and feel good about yourself no matter what!”

Ariel stated she did not need to use the interview to defend living with her older boyfriend because she’s happy in love and does not need validation on the topic.

“Not that I’m “defending living with my 29 year old boyfriend” or that I’m “firing back at Trump” because first of all I don’t need to defend anything I’m super happy and in love.”

Perhaps the drama surrounding what was intended to be an uplifting article by Refinery29 inspired Ariel to make some light-hearted jokes regarding the shoot after she felt the need to “rant” on social media. While fans may not know exactly what inspired Winter to come back with jokes on her bikini photo, it does show why so many people appreciate her candor and attitude.

Winter’s body confidence interview drama does come on the heels of another controversy the actress fueled over Memorial Day weekend. The teen shared bikini photos in celebration of the holiday as some people questioned her integrity of doing so.

However, it seems Ariel has since rebounded from that episode as she once again wins hearts with her approach on body acceptance and her ability to be honest with her fans— and to herself.
