Jessa Duggar Compares Jana Duggar To ‘Fixer Upper’ Star Joanna Gaines
Jana Duggar is just like Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines, according to her younger sister, Jessa. But how much does the Counting On star really have in common with the HGTV darling?
On Thursday, the Dedicated to the Duggars Tumblr shared an image from one of Jessa Duggar’s recent Instagram stories. It was a black-and-white, split-screen photo of Jana Duggar and Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines striking the same pose. In the image, both women have their arms crossed and are leaning against a kitchen sink.
“Our very own Jana—er, Joanna Gaines,” Jessa captioned the image.
Joanna Gaines and Jana Duggar both share a passion for working on home improvement projects. Joanna and her husband, Chip Gaines, renovate properties on their HGTV series, and Jana has shown off her own interior design skills on Counting On. Jana took charge when she and her sisters teamed up to redecorate the Duggar family’s guest house, and she helped her brothers install new lighting fixtures in Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald’s home. According to the International Business Times, Jana also purchased an old tattoo parlor to renovate last year, but she has yet to update fans on what she plans on doing with the property.

Jana Duggar and her siblings help their parents with the family real estate business, but the projects the Duggars work on probably aren’t quite as ambitious as those that Chip and Joanna Gaines enjoy tackling; the Fixer Upper stars will spend weeks transforming a building that’s falling apart into a beautiful home.
Many of these renovated properties are located in Chip and Joanna’s hometown of Waco, Texas. As reported by People, a few of the Duggars are such massive Fixer Upper fans that they’ve headed to the heart of Texas to visit Magnolia Market at the Silos, the super-sized home decor store owned by Chip and Joanna. On April 12, Jessa shared an Instagram photo of herself, Jana, and Jinger posing in front of the Silos Baking Co. The Duggars were also spotted at Magnolia Market on June 2.
Jana Duggar may look up to Joanna Gaines, but some fans fear that any dream Jana has of following in her footsteps by starting her own house-flipping business will forever be out of reach for the 27-year-old Counting On star. As the Hollywood Gossip reports, Jana still lives at home with her parents, and many fans believe that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar want to keep her there to help raise the younger Duggar children. Like the other adult Duggar daughters, Jana has not attended college, and right now she’s just waiting on her “Prince Charming” to come along so that she can become a wife and mother.

Because of her parents’ strict rules, it’s impossible for Jana to find love the way Joanna Gaines did. Joanna — who has done un-Duggar-like things like attending college at Baylor University, working at a buffet restaurant, and living in NYC — met Chip Gaines when she was working behind the counter at her father’s automotive shop in Waco. According to PopSugar, he came in to get his brakes fixed, and they immediately hit it off. Jana is only allowed to get to know guys who approach her father first, so she’ll never meet Mr. Right this way.
Even if a guy like Chip Gaines did go through Jim Bob Duggar first, he’d likely get shut down. According to People, Chip was making absolutely no money flipping houses when he and Joanna got married. Jim Bob grills all prospective Duggar husbands about their finances before giving them permission to court his daughters, and he probably wouldn’t give the go-ahead to someone who is completely broke. Ben Seewald, who was a teenager in college when he began courting Jessa Duggar, had to agree to work for Jim Bob while he took his classes online. However, Chip Gaines was someone who insisted on doing things his way, even if it meant financially struggling for awhile.
Jana Duggar may not have as much in common with Joanna Gaines as Jessa thinks she does, but Jana is still hopeful that her own Chip will find her someday. As Entertainment Tonight reports, she’s patiently waiting for a Prince Charming with dirt under his fingernails.
