E3 2017: Will We See More From ‘The Last Of Us: Part II’?

Back in December, Naughty Dog — the developer of the Uncharted series and the superb post-apocalyptic drama The Last of Us — shocked everyone when they showed the reveal trailer for The Last of Us: Part II at Sony’s PlayStation Experience (PSX) press conference. Of course, while many felt that there was no need for a sequel, everyone knew the studio was planning to develop a second game and that it was just a matter of time before we heard or saw anything about it.

The trailer we saw back at PSX was, according to Naughty Dog’s creative director Neil Druckmann, put together more than one year prior to it being shown. In it, we saw both Ellie and Joel, which put to bed the rumors that suggested that the popular duo wouldn’t be involved in the second game. The rumors did stem from Druckmann, however, as he said during an interview with PlayStation Magazine that he was considering making a second game without Joel and Ellie.

Now the main question is whether we will see anything from The Last of Us: Part II at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3.
According to IGN, the answer is, most likely, yes, simply because Naughty Dog wants to keep the “hype train” going.

Now, the biggest question is if Naughty Dog will reveal when the game will be released. Back at PSX, Druckmann said that the team does have a date in mind, but at the time, he didn’t want to reveal that date because, in the past, the studio has been forced to delay several games, most recently Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, so he doesn’t want to make the same mistake with The Last of Us: Part II.

What should we expect from The Last of Us: Part II at this year’s E3? Some are hoping for a gameplay trailer while others are hoping that they’ll reveal the release date. However, it seems far too early to show gameplay from The Last of Us: Part II, so if they do show anything at all from the game, it’ll be another cinematic trailer.

The reveal trailer for The Last of Us: Part II was the final thing that was shown back at PSX, as it was, by far, the biggest reveal at the event. However, don’t be surprised if The Last of Us: Part II opens the Sony conference at this year’s E3, as a game like God of War or Days Gone will likely close out the show, simply because both of those games could very well be coming out later this year, presumably in the fall.

There’s a chance, albeit a small one, that we don’t see anything from The Last of Us: Part II at E3. However, that doesn’t mean Naughty Dog won’t have a presence at the event, as they’re preparing for the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is currently scheduled to be released on August 22. Even if we don’t see anything from The Last of Us: Part II, we will almost certainly see something from The Lost Legacy.

The PlayStation E3 Media Showcase, which is the official name for this year’s Sony conference, will take place on June 12. The event will begin at 9 p.m. ET, and it will be held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, which is the site of last year’s event. It’s also being shown in select theaters in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. To see if a theater in your area is showing this year’s E3, click right here.
