Win: Urbanspoon iPhone App Gets Augmented Reality

urbanspoon

Popular restaurant review site Urbanspoon has released a new version of its iPhone app that adds augmented reality to its already impressive feature lineup.

The new augmented reality feature allows users to point their iPhone and see overlaid restaurant information. Nereby restaurants appear as circles with the rating on each establishment overlaid, so you can easily find out popular places to eat.

The shot above doesn’t do it justice as I took it sitting at my computer, but it still shows the gist of how it works. You don’t have to be physically located in a street to get data as it will overlay details where ever you are at the time of the nearest places to eat.

Urbanspoon already offered a fine iPhone app before the addition of augment reality. As well as offering location aware restaurant guides, the app also has a “shake” feature that allows you to find a restaurant at random.

The augmented realty feature is only available to iPhone 3GS users, and coverage is available for Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
