Jovan Belcher’s Daughter To Receive More Than $1 Million From NFL

If there’s any good to come out of the murder-suicide that rocked the NFL last week it’s this: The NFL will pay out more than $1 million to Jovan Belcher’s 3-month-old daughter over the next 18 years.

ABC reports that Zoey’s guardian or her estate will receive $9,000 per month over the next four years under the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement. She’ll receive $48,000 during year five and $52,000 per year after that until she turns 18 or 23 depending on her college situation.

According to Fox Sports, Belcher’s beneficiary will also receive $600,000 in life insurance and $200,000 for each credited season.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend, Zoey’s mother, last week before heading to Arrowhead Stadium where he took his own life in front of head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli. Belcher reportedly called his coach to the parking lot in order to thank him for all his help. He told Pioli to take care of his daughter and then took his own life.

Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepard, is currently taking care of the little girl. Shepard told reports that Zoey was doing “fine.”

Are you happy that the NFL will be giving Zoey more than $1 million during the course of her life?
