Michael Nance’s Cause Of Death Investigated: ‘The Bachelorette’s’ Emily Maynard Tweets On Dead Bachelor

Michael Nance’s death has many fans questioning how the Bachelorette cast member died. The 31-year-old had appeared on bachelorette Emily Maynard’s season way back in 2012, and at the time, he was listed as a rehab counselor from Austin, Texas. Unfortunately, Michael allegedly struggled with prescription drug addiction, so fans of the Bachelor Nation are assuming drugs must be involved in his death. On Twitter, Maynard has also responded to the news of Nance’s death.

Reports say Nance was discovered on Tuesday at an undisclosed Austin residence in the mid-afternoon, only to be pronounced dead on Monday at an Austin, Texas-area hospital in the middle of the night. Police investigators claim that the bachelor’s death does not seem to be the result of foul play, so the case is not a murder investigation.

Spokesperson Anna Sabana says the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will have to determine Michael Nance’s cause of death, including whether drugs were involved. According to the Associated Press, an autopsy was completed on Tuesday, but it may take several weeks before the results of the toxicology test are known. At this time, there is no official cause or manner of death.

Michael Nance’s Drug Addiction

The Bachelorette cast member was known as a long-haired, handsome musician who tried to win Maynard’s heart, but he also had struggles from the past. In 2012, then-26-year-old Nance revealed that he had been fighting a prescription drug addiction, but he also claimed to be clean for two years before ever competing as a bachelor.

“Right now, life is good, but I haven’t put as much focus on my love life because the way I was a couple years ago, no one would have wanted to be around me,” he said on the show. “I was addicted to prescription pain medicine. It all starts out fun and then somewhere along the road, it just turned into something else. It’s a vicious cycle and it ate away at me for a long time. I’m almost two years sober, now, and it’s not that easy — you have to completely change your way of living. But my life is really, really good today…. I’m happy and I’m content, but there are things missing in my life. I would like to find my soulmate.”

While filming, Nance was instructing blind girls on how to play the guitar, but he wanted to take his talent further. After competing on The Bachelorette Season 8, Nance went on to pursue his music career, and he released 17 songs on the iTunes music store. The bachelor even created a music video called “The Heezy,” which you can see below.

The musician went on to change other things in his life, including his hairstyle. While he was known for his long locks, he eventually decided to make the big cut back in 2014.

Despite losing out on The Bachelorette, the bachelor did find love eventually. Michael Nance’s girlfriend was named Aseel Danan, although it’s uncertain if they were still together at the time of Nance’s death. Regardless, on Instagram, Danan left a message in remembrance.

“RIP my sweet Michael. You will forever be connected to my heart and soul. I love you always,” wrote Danan.

Over on Twitter, Maynard said it felt “like a lifetime ago” when the five-year anniversary of the premiere of The Bachelorette Season 8 had occurred. Yesterday, she left a brief message in remembrance of Nance.

“So sad waking up to the news about Michael Nance. Such a kind heart with so much talent. Sending prayers and love to his family and friends,” she said.
