The Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar Face-Off Predicted To Be The ‘Feud Of The Summer,’ Say Wrestling Experts

If there’s one thing you can say definitively about Roman Reigns, it’s that he knows how to put warm bodies in cold seats. But that doesn’t mean he’s been able to carry the entire weight of the Monday Night Raw ratings on his back. To the contrary — not even he has been able to save the slumping ratings as of late. However, this battle between Reigns and “The Beast” Brock Lesnar promises to give the red brand a much-needed ratings boost. In fact, some wrestling experts think that their face-off will be the feud of the summer!

These pretty bold claims about Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns are being made by Bleacher Report, who thinks that we as fans will see a huge spike in both attendance and at-home wrestling watching after Extreme Rules.

“Instead of waiting on a ‘Mania rematch, WWE can jump-start this feud to rage through all of the summer. While the build to the match between Lesnar and Reigns the first time was lackluster, the actual match was one of the best recent contests on the Grandest Stage of Them All. These powerhouses have clear chemistry that will make for fantastic matches.”

But according to other experts, Roman Reigns is doing just fine on his own, and in fact, it’s his feud with Seth Rollins that’s going to draw in fans, not the feud with Lesnar.

That’s the word, at least, according to Forbes, who believes that this feud is the start of a storyline that will lead, ultimately, to a Shield reunion.

As fans of wrestling already know, The Shield was a much-beloved collective that featured Reigns, Rollins, and Dean Ambrose, who just came over to the red brand after being on the blue brand for quite a while. For as long as Dean Ambrose was on the blue brand, the possibility of a Shield reunion was next to none. However, now that he’s on the red brand, the possibility is even more real now than ever before.

“Reigns is now WWE’s clear-cut No. 2 merchandise seller (behind only Cena) while Fightful’s Google Shopping rankings indicate that Rollins and Ambrose are perhaps No. 5 and No. 6 on that list, respectively, behind only Cena, AJ Styles, Reigns and The Undertaker. Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose have developed into three of WWE’s most accomplished singles stars, but roughly three years after the implosion of The Shield in 2014 and with WWE in desperate need of a ratings fix on Raw, the time is finally right for the three stars to reunite.”

Finally, Wrestling Inc. reports that Roman Reigns is all-too-happy for now to talk about the feud between himself and Rollins. He actually tweeted this after he defeated Rollins in the ring last night.

For what it’s worth, the idea that Roman Reigns is the No. 1 contender isn’t set in stone quite yet (even though it seems all but inevitable since Braun Strowman is out of commission for at least six months). He will be facing off against Rollins, Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt, and Samoa Joe in a Fatal 5 Way this Sunday to determine the new No. 1 contender to WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

Wrestling fans, now it’s your turn: What do you think of this latest news about Roman Reigns? Do you think that the battle between him and Lesnar will bring in more fans?
