Jimmy Fallon and Mariah Carey Sing Holiday Hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’

Jimmy Fallon does it again and adds a delightful spin on an old classic. In a surprise appearance Tuesday night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Mariah Carey graced NBC’s Studio 6B to perform her holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

However, instead of a typical performance, Jimmy Fallon, Mariah Carey, and the Roots changed things up a bit. Decked out in sweaters and discarding their regular hardware for simple classroom instruments, the Roots and Jimmy Fallon played back up to Mariah Carey’s booming voice. The mixture of the Fair Isle sweaters, Jimmy Fallon playing a kazoo, a front row of kids popping up in front, and Mariah Carey in a glamorous red dress makes this video a treat. The effect is a playful, intimate performance where even known diva Mariah Carey loosens up enough to let out genuine laughter.

While “All I Want For Christmas Is You” seems new and fresh, the track was first released in 1994. Since then, it has become a staple of holiday playlists everywhere.

This collaboration brings together two popular segments from Late Night With Jimmy Fallon: the holiday sing along, as seen on Thanksgiving with Rashida Jones, and deconstructed performances, as seen when Jimmy Fallon, The Roots and Christina Aguilera sang “My Body” with office supplies.
