Rachel Lindsay Teases Cocktail Party Drama On ‘The Bachelorette’: Who’s Not There For The Right Reasons?

Rachel Lindsay is not playing games with her suitors on The Bachelorette. While some of the guys may not be taking the chance for romance very seriously (two of her potential husbands are nicknamed “Tickle Monster” and “Whaboom”), Rachel definitely is. On her Bachelorette blog for People magazine, Rachel Lindsay revealed that after last week’s premiere night niceties, things will hit a boiling point in Episode 2.

After that supersized meet and greet cocktail party last week, Rachel Lindsay’s dates start in Week 2. The Bachelorette star revealed that she gets swept off her feet after one of her dates. But something bad happens, too.

“Unfortunately, I also have the rug completely pulled out from under me,” Lindsay teased on her blog.

“I’ll just say that one man convinces me this all could work while another makes my worst fears come true. You’ll see me cry, curse someone out and have one of the Most! Dramatic! Cocktail Parties! Ever!… and this is just next week!”

In a conference call with reporters, Rachel Lindsay has gone on record as saying one of her biggest fears on The Bachelorette is meeting guys who are not on the show for the right reasons.

“Coming into this journey, that was one of my fears, that I would pick the wrong guy who’s not here for me, who’s trying to push his own agenda,” Lindsay said, according to Reality TV World. “That was a huge fear of mine, but my mom told me to follow my gut, and that’s what I’ve done. And I really feel like I did a good job of filtering out those men.”

Still, as viewers head into The Bachelorette Week 2, there are several guys who stand out as not being on the show for the right reasons, yet somehow made the cut during the premiere night rose ceremony.

Rachel Lindsay was warned about DeMario Jackson early on. On the season premiere of The Bachelorette, Lindsay’s Bachelor co-star and pal Whitney Fransway warned her that DeMario might not be on the show for the right reasons. Fransway revealed that Sarah Vendal, also from Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor, knows DeMario through some mutual friends from college.

“She said that his intentions might not be pure,” Whitney revealed.

But Rachel Lindsay pretty much blew the warning off, saying she can understand that people may initially sign on to the show for different reasons, but could still be “open to what can happen.”

Bachelorette spoiler king Reality Steve has already teased that DeMario has a girlfriend and that she will show up in the middle of a group basketball date to confront him for his cheating ways. Rachel Lindsay and her guys are set to have a group date at the basketball courts with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Episode 2.

The Bachelorette full-season trailer (which can be seen below) confirms that someone’s ex shows up, and it’s not pretty as the spurned woman reveals Rachel’s suitor still has keys to her apartment and was in her bed just weeks before he skipped town to court The Bachelorette star.

In addition to DeMario, an obvious fame-seeker is Lucas “Whaboom” Yancey. The megaphone-toting suitor made quite an impression on The Bachelorette premiere as he shook his head frantically and screamed out his signature “Whaboom” catchphrase. He impressed Rachel enough to make it past Week 1, but fans should know that Yancey had an IMDB profile before he signed on to The Bachelorette. While he pegs himself as an “actor/writer/producer,” Whaboom has a thing for reality TV dating shows.

In 2016, Lucas appeared on the WeTV dating show Ex Isle alongside—wait for it!—another one of Rachel Lindsay’s suitors, Blake Elarbee. In addition, Yancey was on the cast of Telemundo’s Spanish-language series, 12 Corazones Especial de Circo Entretenimiento, back in 2011, and he is already peddling t-shirts with his trademark “Whaboom” catchphrase on them.

Some Bachelorette fans have questioned why Rachel Lindsay kept “Whaboom” on the show past Week 1. In an interview with E! News, Rachel admitted that she wanted to be entertained, and Lucas fit the bill.

“I still don’t understand ‘Whaboom’ in its entirety,” Lindsay admitted to E! “But it is Lucas, it’s a part of him. I think that’s why he was decked out in it and speaking it every 30 seconds! I said I wanted to be entertained the first night, and that he did!”

Rachel also shot down speculation that producers forced her to keep a guy who is probably not there for the right reasons.

“I think people are going to think that,” Lindsay admitted.

“I am so opinionated and direct, they couldn’t make me do anything.”

Some Bachelorette fans are also wondering about Dean Unglert and his intentions. Like DeMario, Dean met Rachel Lindsay on the live After the Final Rose show, and he made quite a first impression—but not in a favorable way in some fans’ eyes. Dean’s opening line to Rachel was that he’s “ready to go black and never go back.” While some Bachelorette fans may think Dean was brought on Rachel Lindsay’s season of the show just to cause controversy, in an interview with Marie Claire, Rachel says she was impressed by Dean’s “bold” announcement.

“Dean’s comment did not bother me,” Lindsay told Marie Claire. “I actually thought it was funny; I thought it was bold because he didn’t know how I would take it. It sparked my interest in him. He did it, to me, in a funny way. But also, during the first episode of this season, he talked to me about how I felt about that. Obviously, I’m the first black Bachelorette. It might be the first time that men have dated interracially.”

While he didn’t name names in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bachelorette host Chris Harrison confirmed that, with 31 suitors on the cast, a few of the guys did not sign on to the show with the hope of becoming Rachel Lindsay’s future husband.

“A few people get to wear the [villain] crown and it gets passed around several times,” the longtime ABC host told EW. “There’s some that are very obvious that aren’t there for the right reasons and that wear that hat very well but then as the show gets on, it was a very dynamic season and so you have to pay attention to who’s going to be the hero and who’s going to be the villain.”
