Roman Reigns Needs To Turn Heel And Shouldn’t Be The Deadman’s Final Match, Says Wrestling Star

When it comes to WWE star Roman Reigns, there are plenty of people who feel turning him into a heel could be “best for business.” One of those who believes that to be the case is a former WWE superstar. A recent interview with JTG who was both a singles competitor and member of the popular tag team Cryme Tyme revealed that he has a few thoughts about the former Shield member. They also include his belief that Roman Reigns needs to change his look and that he shouldn’t be the final opponent that The Undertaker faced in his legendary career.

The Wrestling News website posted Andrew Ravens’ recent interview with JTG, real name Jayson Paul, who was one-half of the team Cryme Tyme along with Shad Gaspard. JTG competed in the WWE as part of Cryme Tyme during 2006 through 2007 and then from 2008 to 2010. He would finish his career there on a singles run that spanned from 2011 through 2014 and currently makes his living on the independent circuit like many other former talents. JTG admitted that although he doesn’t watch every WWE television show or pay-per-view, he keeps up with the main events for shows like Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, and SummerSlam.

The former WWE star was asked what he thought about Roman Reigns vs. Undertaker at this year’s edition of WrestleMania and seems in disbelief that it was Taker’s final appearance in the ring.

“I don’t know if that’s his last match. I enjoyed the match between he and Roman Reigns. I didn’t know which direction it was gonna go, but being a talent and a performer and not knowing what direction the match is going to go, and you get emotionally invested in it, it’s a good match. I personally enjoyed it. I don’t think it’s his last match. I think he has just one more in him. But I personally don’t think Roman Reigns should be his final opponent.”

There have been plenty of wrestling personalities, analysts, and talents out there who believe Taker could still make a return to the ring for “one more match.” However, there are also those that see him placing his ring gear in a pile in the ring after his loss to Reigns as a telling sign that he’s decided to finally call it quits. Earlier this month it was reported that Taker was seen going to a New York hospital for much-needed hip surgery following his lengthy wrestling career. A WWE Hall of Fame induction announcement within the new year or so is probably the nail in the coffin of his wrestling career to convince fans that he’s done working matches.

JTG also seems to have some interesting observations about the man who may have defeated Taker in his final match. WWE is trying its hardest to push Roman Reigns as a babyface with the fans but that isn’t working quite as well as they’d like. When asked his thoughts about Reigns getting so much heat from the fans, JTG seemed surprised as he mentioned he hadn’t kept up with him as much but thought he was a “fan favorite” now.

The former WWE star gave some thoughts on what WWE needs to do with Reigns to help his character work out better.

“I didn’t know he was still getting booed. That sucks. Why don’t they just turn him heel? I wish Roman Reigns the best of luck. I wish he would take that vest off though, that’s my only complaint. Everyone from The Shield has changed their look and he’s still looking like he wants a Shield comeback.”

Not too many people out there have mentioned changing up Reigns’ look, but it seems it’s become a major part of his character. However, it’s possible that JTG is on to something and that maybe if WWE gives Roman Reigns a unique outfit it could change more fans’ perspective on him. The idea of turning him heel is one that plenty of people have been suggesting for a while now, but WWE seems to believe he is best in the babyface role. Unfortunately for the company, they are having a hard time getting some of the most vocal fans on board with that notion.

Having Reigns defeat The Undertaker gives him a major talking point for his career and a great bullet point on his wrestling resume. Still, the longtime fans of the product were disappointed it was Roman Reigns who may have retired one of the best legends of the ring. The WWE rumors that Reigns is scheduled to win next year’s Royal Rumble and then defeat Brock Lesnar for the championship at WrestleMania may cause him to get even more heat as the company continues to try to push him as the heir to John Cena’s role. Just like Cena, WWE seems they will stay away from that big shocking Roman Reigns heel turn that many fans would love to see.
