Bethenny Frankel To Phaedra Parks: She’d ‘Beat’ Her If She Was Kandi Burruss

Bethenny Frankel has never been one to bite her tongue. The Real Housewives of New York star recently added her two cents on the explosive drama between Phaedra Parks and Kandi Burruss, and she didn’t not have any nice words for Parks.

Bethenny Frankel appeared with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live’s After Show, and held nothing back when she dished out her opinion on the way Kandi Burruss handled herself with Phaedra Parks.

Apparently, Bethenny feels that Kandi Burruss showed more restraint than she would have been able to, had the situation happened to her.

“I think she contained herself, I really do,” she said of Burruss’ reactions to Phaedra Parks’ disturbing allegations. “I don’t know how — I would’ve needed to hire Phaedra as a lawyer to represent me in ripping her a—! I would’ve beat her a—.”

Bethenny continued, “That was insane! She’s a lawyer! She’s a lawyer and she tried to ruin someone’s brand and career and she has a kid. I mean it was despicable!”

“Despicable” seems to be the overwhelming opinion of the majority of the room. Bethenny’s admission was followed by roaring applause from the in-studio audience members, which suggests that many of them agreed with her.

A recap of the RHOA Drama:

Kandi Burruss and Porsha Williams have never been best friends, but they’ve always had a fairly cordial relationship. This past season saw Porsha and Kandi’s relationship turn volatile after someone told Porsha that they’d overheard Kandi Burruss talking about wanting to drug her.

The mystery person was never revealed until the RHOA reunion, however, which meant that Kandi Burruss had to spend an entire season defending herself against the slanderous accusations. The world was shocked when Porsha Williams revealed that the originator of the lie as none other than Phaedra Parks, who didn’t seem too fazed or apologetic about damaging Kandi’s reputation.

After the backlash died down a little, sources close to Phaedra started claiming that RHOA producers are the ones who planted the allegations in Phaedra’s ear, something that Andy Cohen and Bravo have vehemently denied.

“People are not told what to say,” Cohen says. “We cast women with strong opinions and strong points of view. We can’t force any of these women — if you’ve ever met a Housewife, you know that. We can’t force them to say anything,” Andy Cohen told ET.

Bethenny’s first comments about Phaedra Parks came shortly after the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion special aired and weren’t nearly as vicious. Frankel also spoke to Entertainment Tonight shortly after Phaedra Parks was exposed and basically co-signed Cohen’s comments.

“Producers can’t make you say something,” Frankel told ET. “If you’re a strong enough personality to be on these shows, then you can push back. But that’s not how it really works … You’re a grown woman.”

“You don’t come for someone’s livelihood and their kids,” Frankel added. “I think Phaedra was one of those not-so-skilled, cunning masterminds. And, it exploded on her, you know? She was playing with fireworks and it backfired.”

Backfired it did. Multiple outlets have reported that Phaedra Parks is not slated to return for Season 10 of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, though all of it cannot be blamed on Phaedra’s lies. Apparently, producers feel that Phaedra Parks hasn’t been open enough about her private life, post-separation from Apollo Nida, who’s currently serving eight years in federal prison. Because of this, the suits at Bravo don’t believe that it’s economical to pay Phaedra’s hefty 1.3 million dollar fee.

Time will tell if Phaedra Parks actually returns to RHOA, though it’s not likely unless she makes up with her co-stars.

“What I can tell you is, what you have to look at is where she stands with the group,” Cohen said of Phaedra’s possible return.”When we left the reunion, she was on an island. None of the other women wanted anything to do with her. So, that’s something that we’ll look at as we figure out what to do with the show.”

“It’s all about how it plays out in the group of women,” Cohen added. “That’s what dictates everything.”
